Via Windhorst: Jimmy Butler will test FA no matter what happens. He will be a free agent in the 2025 offseason. Macmahon instantly clarifies and says this isn't binding but all things point to that.

Surely, the Suns aren't dumb enough to trade Booker for Butler, even if KD is begging for it (which I would hope he is not).

Maybe Jimmy has enough millions, and will sign for the minimum with the team of his choosing to go chase a championship. ...but I just don't think so.

No, and in fact, I'd bet what little money I have relative to Jimmy Butler that this is all happening because he already has an idea of what Miami is willing to offer him next and is unhappy with it. We always focus on value exchanging hands on these deals, but my belief is that about 50% of this big-name auction trade dance is about said big-name's agent determining which team is willing to pay the guy in the coming months. That's how the Mavs got BOTH Porzingis and Kyrie, for example.

I don’t see Dallas as an option. Tricky situation for Miami and Butler too. Probably best for Miami to move on. They are not a contender and can’t see how they can become one in the Butler timeframe.
But there appears to be a limited market out there due to his salary. So is it worth getting back 50% on the dollar for him? Also, with barely not teams having cap room this summer, could Butler go somewhere else without Miami’s help? If so, it it better for Miami to wait until the offseason if the offers are lukewarm. I think I read Detroit could be a third team to help a deal like this? Would they want Porter Jr? The question is, would Miami get good value back in that type of trade?

It's hard to see a team that satisfies 1) the needed salary to match Butler's contract. 2) The want/ability to give Butler his max contract, and 3) the ability to stay competitive even after a Butler trade. Mavs could satisfy 1 and 2, but I highly doubt we'd be as good if we shipped off half of the team for him. Phoenix's ability to satisfy 1 hinges on Beal's NTC and Heat's want for him. HOU definitely can do 1 and 3, but has already voiced concerns for 2. And the offseason isn't much different, with only BRK with significant cap space. Butler seems stuck.

The Mavs have a good thing going, went to NBA Finals last season, and have Luka plus lots of other talent. But this doesn't say that DAL is truly a possibility -- it would take a commitment of massive payroll plus a trade Mavs aren't likely to want to do. In light of how much talent would be required for a trade match, I'm not seeing a fit.

Even if the Heat decided to offer Jimmy Butler an extension, he would now decline it, per @ShamsCharania. The relationship between Butler and Miami is completely broken. A standoff between Butler and the Heat’s front office will continue until a resolution is reached.

This is one of the areas I tend to say "come on". Butler is making 48 million this year and has a player option next year at 50 million. He is 35 years old. I think the Heat are well in the rights of not extending him right now. Sure, Butler can be pissed and it could be warranted for a "star" player, but he is older. He should need to play at a high standard whether he stays there or not. If he is not traded, is he going to find a better option than picking up his option? I don't believe there will be many teams with that kind of money available.

I am tired of the player empowerment era in the NBA. Never thought I’d say that as I’d rather support the millionaire players than the billionaire owners. But these dudes are out of control. Everyone wants a max. Most of them don’t take the regular season seriously. They all demand trades at the drop of a hat.
Steph and Jokic have been two of my favorite players because of their style of play. But they also show up to play for the fans paying for tickets. No drama.

He's no stranger to big acts to get himself jettisoned from teams. I mean I still remember him destroying the Wolves to get traded.

The Miami Heat believe Boston is beatable and that they can still contend without Jimmy Butler, per @sportsreiter. Miami would want a win-now piece in any trade involving Butler because they have no plans to rebuild. “In internal deliberations, the Heat concluded they would want a key piece to help them win now in any deal that sent Butler away from Miami. ‘We don't do rebuilds,’ one source quipped. The Heat operate, even now as Butler looks to force his way to any other NBA team, under the idea they are a real contender. They believe avoiding the Play-In Tournament is critical. They acknowledge the Celtics are the East' best team but don't view them as unbeatable. They point out, as they have for years, their track record of playoff success post-LeBron came when most around the NBA doubted their chances, as they do today.”
