SL Game 2: Dallas vs. Memphis
#61
I'm ready to cut Lawson tonight. Would be a good birthday present for him based on this performance.

Miller and even sharp would deserve a two way contract better than Lawson tbh. Miller is our best player in the summer league so far and sharp provides solid D in the middle.

Im glad. They should clown him. He's playing like he belongs in the WNBA.

Prosper too lanky to me. Has no moves. Awkward

Among all the available college, g-league and international talent they really couldn't find a guard that can bring the ball up the floor. Maybe someone that can run basic 1-5 pick and roll.

Killian Hayes would've been so good. Im so mad they didn't take your suggestion.

OMax got beat up and missed the layup but then very next play gets the steal and slam. I love Omax.

I have never seen a player that is gambling as much in transition as Lawson.

The long arms are what's so great about him. That's what makes him such a great defender.

When OMax gets his legs under him that 3pt shot looks pure.

So we had to wait for the 4th quarter of game two to get our first look at the Mavs best big. Two minutes of Alatishe have been better than anything I have seen from Sharp and Whaley.

Mavs are finally playing good ball and its no surprise Lawson and Williams are sitting.

Haven’t seen any good defense

Here's a clip from this very same game!

Its not hard to find good defense when you're watching OMax

Very awkward. He’s not smooth.  That ain’t gonna work against real league

Lucas obviously lacks NBA level athleticism but for the summer league setting he is a much better fit than Gortman, Lawson or Williams. A real catch and shoot threat.

But it already has been shown that he does play good defense in the big leagues...?

Like there are many things to complain about OMax for, but defense isn't one of them.

That was rough. All I care about is Omax and Melvin. Melvin was pretty quiet. I like his demeanor and almost had a big dunk. Tough to make an impression on him. His game is probably better suited with more structure. He is not ready though. Keep him overseas for another year. Although if the choose is him or Fudge for a two way (that is depressing) give it to Melvin.

Omax shot looked smooth in the second half but he too is not ready. I really was hoping he would be a more skilled DJJ or DFS. Right now je is not showing that. Solid defense at times but you don’t feel his presence the full game like elite defenders. With steals, blocks, walking off guards. He is ok but mavs need to expect more.

Melting and onax not playing with guards who can get them the ball at the right spots isn’t helping either.

GG looks like a player. Three years younger than Omax. I think Cam Spencer is an nba player. Laravia has a big year in year 3. Not sure any other players are nba guys. Jamison and Pippen are really good but may be in a numbers game in a league. But that is the thing. Memphis has most of their roster who has a fighting chance to be nba players. Dallas doesn’t.

You know, Cam Whitmore went 1 for 15 tonight, so I don’t know what to think about summer league. But I probably would keep the bare minimum from this roster, so that means Omax only. He doesn’t really look ready to play yet but has some potential and a rookie contract guarantee. I’ve been thinking the Mavs need another PG, but with Luka actually getting to heal and the lack of power forwards, I’m changing my mind. DJJ could slide over and play the 4. Naji won’t be able to do that. I thought Omax could get a few minutes, but he’s getting bullied in summer league and wouldn’t have a chance against bigger guys. Besides PJ and Maxi (and Luka, but who wants to do that), the Mavs don’t have a single guy who can man the 4.

Omax is still a project imo and he's not going to get significant minutes next season. I really don't get the Omax love. If he wasn't a Mav, I wouldn't even think twice about the guy. He's a young player with a crazy wingspan with potential. He's nothing more right now. He's awkward and not a good player offensively.
