You know what's interesting? Lebron still hasn't signed with the Lakers.
This will never happen, but imagine the outcry if Lebron came here on a vet min deal just to ring chase.
He will not leave Bronny, but I cannot imagine a better scenario to break the internet.
He's definitely waiting to see if he needs to take a paycut for the Lakers to get someone, but just a fun little thought while Im waiting for more FA news.

Assuming no more moves are made now, my dream would be Naz Reid at the deadline if Minny blows it up.

It's the NBA equivalent of the Frenzied Flame chaos ending in Elden Ring. The drama would be unmatched.

This is probably the most idealized Maxi replacement if we could choose.
I wonder if Nico called and offered 2 FRPs for Naz would the Minny GM take the call or hang up quick?
The Arod ownership stuff made it seem like they are going to be cost cutting eventually.

In case anyone is interested, here's what the Mavs situation looks like per my current spreadsheet.
One note: it appears I jumped the gun on Lawson being waived. I thought he had been; but perhaps not, at least not yet as KL asked below. If he hasn't been, his salary is not guaranteed (so he can be waived at any time before the season opener, at no cost) --- but until they do so, they can't add anyone else, because they don't even have minimum salary to sign anyone (only 1.58M). So I'm leaving this without Lawson for the time being, to make it easier to see what they might have left to work with on another player.

available free agents I could see the Mavs chasing with…
$4.4M remaining of the MLE:
Spencer Dinwiddie
Markelle Fultz
Gary Harris
Talen Horton-Tucker
Monte Morris
Dennis Smith Jr.
Vet minimum:
Pat Beverley
Reggie Bullock
Vlatko Cancar
Robert Covington
Kira Lewis Jr.
Kyle Lowry
Marcus Morris
A big part of me is screaming for us to bring back DSJ and snag RoCo. DSJ has become a really good defender and can create his own shot. Would be great to have him coming off the bench. RoCo’s career speaks for itself.
These two would round out the team nicely.

SH, maybe we should pin this in your CBA thread, or keep a current version somewhere easily accessible?

The problem with trading these 2 is you then have to find a big or two to back up Gafford and Lively. You need bigs on the cheap like them. I don’t see other capable bigs available right now. Capela is available for trade but that’s not happening.
Who are you suggesting?

Great idea.
I can keep a standby copy in another forum we can pull. But for the CBA thread we can wait until after FA when the roster is set so we don't have to keep updating it.

No Lawson. Did you not list him because we don’t know what they’re doing with him yet? Because his contract is the same as a minimum cap hold? Both?

I believe Lawson's NG deal was waived. (But as I looked for confirmation of what I thought I saw, I can't find it, so maybe in the rush of the day I erased him prematurely. I added a note to the post above. If they don't waive Lawson, they are done signing anyone except for SL and Camp invites. No idea how much they like him as a player, but my remarks below assume he isn't kept.)
I look at their depth chart, and don't think a legit backup-level guy would want to be here and try to find minutes. I don't see a real opening at all.
I'm guessing they will finish out the roster like they did last year, with
1 slot 14 goes to either Morris again or some other crusty vet who won't rock the boat, won't be bothered by DNP's, and can steer attitudes ... that's the last paying position
2 slot 15 is basically kept open, for development and a carrot for youngsters
NOTE: imo they really don't have under-apron money to fill slot 15 with anyone until the back half of the season and 10-day contracts.

Another roster spot name is Dominick Barlow. The spurs released him. 21 year old big guy that may be worth the gamble. I think I prefer to gamble on upside wirh this slot. We may not have the minutes for a veteran, even if they provide some insurance in case of a PF injury.
I would keep a point guard type on a two way who can fill in case of injury. I hope they are proactive with the other two way spots

He's a year or two away. Europe or G-league bound.
