PJ is not going to be denied at the rim BY THE RIM 3 times in two weeks like Williams was here. Their athletic profiles really don’t compare. I always thought Washington was the better choice, athletically, during our summer debates, I just didn’t expect Williams’ athleticism to be so problematic.
This is a serious upgrade, I am pretty confident of that.

Mavs technically don't "lose" something in a "swap"
They can still offer that swap in future deals by saying the Mavs get the worst pick of the deal.

But this swap is obviously less valuable than the first one. OKC picks are also likely to be very bad picks for some time, if they manage to keep improving their very talented team

Hope Kammarth is following along with these moves towards big wingspans.

I spoke with him via email yesterday, actually. He is not following the Mavs at all, and is instead devoting himself to some professional soccer team from Kansas City, believe it or not.

I have no idea how good PJ Washington is. He has talent but he has seemed like a Christian Wood type where the IQ, effort, and other distractions keep him from realizing his potential. Losing the 27 first hurts. Hopefully it works out and he blossoms here.
More importantly, I’ve felt the Mavs are a lot further away from being a title contender than the prevailing thought of let’s wait til the summer and trade all remaining assets/three first rd picks for a guy on the level of Jerami Grant.
I like this path better. Keep adding young talent with upside. TBD if any of the young talent works out.

Whoa, figured he just left the board but not the Mavs. Wonder how he feels about Sporting KC’s wingspans.

Looks like we had to pay 2028 pick swap with OKC. Makes the deal less amazing. It helps that we got good young players on long term deals.

Yeah, the reality of their remaining trade power puts a pretty depressing filter on today's events for me.

This is the saddest news! But funny.
