Trade & FA 2023-24: PHX Wants Lebron+Bronny| Hawks to Shop Hunter
(06-30-2023, 11:37 AM)mvossman Wrote: Actually, the Mavs have bird rights on Powell.  There is no need to spend any MLE on him.  The only issue is the tax line and staying under it for the full MLE.  Lot of moving parts regarding where that line is.  The other option is they do an S&T with Wood for somebody worth more than the MLE and operate in the tax.  At that point they can sign Powell at what they need to and still have the tax MLE.

You’re right about the technicality, I was just referring to the number he’s going to get relative to their ability to use the MLE. Just saying, I think he’s going to get more than the BAE, and that they won’t give the full MLE to one guy (partially as a result).

Rockets brass heads to LA to meet with Dillon Brooks and Brook Lopez.

That would certainly be the Donnie/Cuban plan
Still unsure what the Nico plan would be. Kinda all over the place. Will it be genius? Will it be the dumbest shit we've ever seen? I have no idea

Even if that happens, they’d want draft capital the Mavs don’t have. Would have to be a 3-team deal. Even that is a huge stretch, imo.

…not to mention those “hard capped after sign and trade” rules I don’t fully grasp yet.

No way. Seems highly suspect to me, especially on Phoenix's end.

I think the Suns stuff is 100%smoke from Kyries’s camp. He’s just trying to manufacture leverage. The Suns beat guy is clowning the Hays reports.

Booker is on the same contract route as KAT. He also gets $61 million in 2027-28

So still unlikely but that contract has to lower his value some

You’d have to trade Kai, Green, Hardy, Lively, ‘27 for Booker and Ayton.

Next Kyrie shill in the media. Kyrie currently in LA to talk to Rockets and LA teams.

There is no Kyrie market. Mavs can just chill. 70/2 or Ayton. This might be the first time that the disdain for Kyrie is so strong it even trumps other teams trying to f*** over Cuban.

PF was their biggest position of need before summer. They cover part of that with the rookie (was it Walker or Hendricks?), but they could still use a vet in the rotation. So Grant Williams could be an option. They traded Duarte, because he wouldn't get minutes behind Brown. Their line-up could be:

Haliburton, McConnel
Mathurin, Hield
Brown, Nembhard
Williams, rookie
Turner, Jackson

As for Dallas. They still didn't accomplish any of the obvious needs for next season. It seems like Brown is running away. Really looking forward to what they will do, but if they don't bring in two credible starters, I will find it very hard to credit the offseason as successful.

I think draft night indicated that the focus was on filling those spots long term vs next season.  I hope they acquire one more starter level player (forward) that fits both next season and long term plan.  In my mind that is a reasonable goal to close out the season.  I don't think they have the assets to bring in 2 starters right now.

Kelly Oubre is unlikely to re-sign.

Oubre would be nice for us.  Ideas on what he'll command $ wise coming off $12.6m/yr?

They might think that way, but I personally don't agree with the plan, and I am basically out if that is the case. I said when current season finished, if they don't bring two starter level guys, I am out. It makes zero sense to trade for Irving and then play the long term game.

Wait, you don't like the idea of Bruce Brown but want Oubre?

Low BB IQ, inefficient on offense and not the defender you would thing given his athleticism.  He would be a disappointing option at MLE.

Philly doesn't need Zubac if Clippers go after Harden, but Mavs could get in as a third team.

Don’t waste time meeting with Brown. Pivot to Grant Williams before everyone else.

So where is Kuzma going? Sacramento used most of their cap space. Houston seems to be locked on Brooks and FVV. Indy still has room, but not if they spend more than half of it on Brown. Detroit? Anyone else out there with enough cap space, or we get into SnT teritory?

I wonder if Grant could accept for the MLE and Boston being satisfied with a second rounder and/or cash to let him walk.
