Just gotta find the last two pieces. Maxi hopefully comes back 100%. I have a need for a Bahamian Bully badly.

Alright, lets keep this simple.
1) Wood for Covington
2) Remove protection on 23 1st to NYK by offering the 25 2nd rounder
3) THJ, 25 1st for Bojan
4) Bertans, 27 1st for Gafford, Barton
This gives Dallas a DFS replacement, a much improved bench scorer, and a defensive minded center. Bertans is cast back into the fiery chasm from whence he came. All picks possible have been successfully offloaded (10 bonus points).
Luka / Hardy
Kyrie / Bullock
Green / Bojan
Covington / Kleber
Gafford / Powell / Ntilikina / Pinson / Wright / McGee

This is confusing.
If we go by "got" which means in past tense -- he already signed the extension.
But this just contradicts the whole quote.
This to me is him lobbying still at the same time, letting fans know he wants to genuinely stay as a Mav but couldn't.

He deserves what he got with his current contract. He works too hard to discount his next contract.

It could mean he signs one version of what he's eligible for and he stays (2, 3 or 4 years at the 120% number). There is another version of what he's eligible for (2 years at the 105% number) and he's still trade eligible. If the latter, an acquiring team would likely want that agreement in advance of a trade. So, it would make sense in the order of things for that to happen first.
Since he appears to be celebrating the 'accomplishment' (meaning something more than the smaller number of dollars and years), it could be the 4/$77mm. There was talk yesterday of Irving 'compromising' at 3 years or doing a 2/1 with the third year a TO. Luka has three years before his PO. In the fourth year from now he can turn down the PO and start his super-max. It would make sense for Wood to be a 3/1 with the fourth being a TO. Maxi's contract runs these same 3 years.
Maybe the smart play here isn't expiring contracts, but guys with three more years left or guys who are extension eligible this summer that you can sign for two years past next season...Wiggins, Collins, Rozier, D. Robinson and any first rounder from the last draft (Jovic) qualify as the former.

It strikes me that he appears neither elated nor pissed in the photo.

It’s so cool that you (and a few others here) can explain stuff like this to the rest of us schmucks. Very grateful. Your guess makes loads of sense.
Pessimism doesn’t make you smart, just pessimistic.

He's probably happy that he has a new deal, but sad that he didn't get the dollars he thought he deserved.

It does strike me as odd that Kyrie extension news all of a sudden started throwing around 3 years max instead of 4 or 5. That'll line up directly in line with Luka's contract as you're pointing out.
Some other centers who's contracts line up with Luka's free agency:
Gafford
Nurkic
Ayton
Gobert (Player option so maybe not)
John Collins
Mitchell Robinson
Bobby Portis

I've always had a sense that the off-court/locker room concerns about Wood had a lot to do with this. I know a lot of NBA players toke, and that's their business. It's when it starts to affect their behavior and performance outside of their down time that it becomes a significant issue (see Howard, Josh).

If he signed or has an agreement, it's for the dollars he wanted. It might not be the amount of years he wanted.

No clue actually. I've heard rumors or maybe they were jokes. I'd kill to know the truth because he has all this talent and seemingly no one wants to put a ring on his finger. We'll probably never know the full story.

Tim McMahan is on the Lowe Podcast today. Lots of Mavs talk. Still listening to it and I think eventually they will talk about some trade rumors. Lowe was saying he is not who the starting lineup will be when everyone is healthy he said he would guess the lineup would be: Kyrie, Luka, Green, Bullock, Powell. Hardaway and Wood off the bench.
