TDL Archived: The 2nd Rnd Pick Yankee Swap

Said all-star has to not be valued by Utah (because they are set with LM) and DFS has to not be valued by said all-stars current team (because they are made up of a bunch of DFS types already).  Sounds like Siakam.
That report is the same posturing as all these other rumors with high asks. I mean, Plumlee for a first? Come on.

So, at some point they believed it to be fair asking price. That is not nothing.

Dfs is a role player, so not a star.  But be careful.  As the mavs try to build into a contender, it is not great to trade winning players.  Not to the level of Jalen but don’t discount things beyond the stats.

If Ainge wants DFS that may be reason to take him off the market. Just saying.

It's obvious that DFS is a highly desirable player for basically ANY team trying to win. I've given up trying to convince people around here of that, but it's pretty obvious. So yes, trading him would be a big deal.

BUT, in the RIGHT deal, I'd have no problem with it. He's not some untouchable asset. I doubt the Mavs can get Siakim, for example, but if they could and DFS was part of the price I wouldn't hesitate.

...who are these people that still need convincing?

They know who they are. You do, too. It would be easier to list those who don't need convincing.

A very extensive piece on TDL. Not rumors, just guesses and trade proposals

Including Finney-Smith in trades can actually net the Mavs some value. Unlike THJ, Bullock, Bertans, and McGee he is desirable to contending teams.

The Jazz rumor doesnt fit though. We want want All-Star type player, and they dont have one. Unless they are willing to talk Lauri.

Then why would the Jazz want DFS? They're really not contending. I see DFS as a target for the top playoff teams looking to add a 3&D winning piece.. As you guys have suggested, this must be a 3 team trade if the Jazz are involved.

Agreed that DFS is a level up from any of those, value-wise, but I think we'd be surprised how desirable THJ and possibly even Bullock are to teams who want shooting. Bullock as a 2-way player is overstated, imo, but he can shoot.

A good thought, with the 3-way comment.

But, with Markannen, a DFS level guy (on a great contract, for sure) might be the thing that seals them into that 6-9 range, if that's what they want. I mostly agree with your logic about this, but I'm not ready to swear UTA wouldn't be interested.

I agree, he shouldn't be untouchable.  It wasn't my intention on my quick response.

I am just worried, the Mavs only strategy is finding that star.    That is fine, but on the other hand it probably led them to lose Jalen.    DFS is signed, so they won't lose him the same way.  I just hope they understand the importance of tough, smart, winning players.   When looking for another all star, I hope they realize you will need several of the DFS types to win a championship.

Not trade speculation, but just trade ideas.

edit, it just shows me how bereft we are of assets.  Even a trade exception or second round picks.  Just crazy with a team with such limited assets they haven't been able to create a few smaller opportunities.

For Utah to be interested, they would have to be trying to get in that range you mentioned. But that would mean the outgoing for them would be salary filler and picks to get DFS.

I dont see them giving up any of their rotation players for DFS if they are going for it. I think that rules out Vanderbilt, Sexton, Clarkson, Beasley.

Maybe we're looking at Horton-Tucker and 1st rounder for DFS. Could we pry away Agbaji?

So many options with Utah. Just not sure what Utah is trying to do. Tank and collect assets or go for it. If they are going for it, it feels like DFS is a secondary piece to something else they have cooking.

DFS paired with Lauri is ideal.  Which begs the question why isn't DFS ideal paired with Wood?  How many games have they started together?

DFS is good pairing with Lauri and Kessler. Utah isint asking Lauri to be a rim protector and play 5.

He might be. They haven't played all that much together, and the majority is with Bullock and not Green.

DFS / Wood -1.72 in 404 min

Green / DFS / Wood (Bullock off)  +17.91 net in 83 min
Bullock / DFS / Wood (Green off)  -6.71 net in 195 min

DFS/Wood (Bullock off) +3.54 net in 202 min
Bullock / DFS / Wood -6.95 in 202 min

Green/DFS numbers are pretty decent so far. +11 net in 298 min. Thats in line with Bullock/DFS last year (+9.27 in 1270 min).

I would like to see heavy starter minutes of Luka / Din / Green / DFS / Wood.

Chemistry is a funny thing.  You don't really know it until you run into it.
