I do not.

Of course not.  I don't expect the Mavs to ever make good personnel decisions.  I think Dan is right in thinking that they'll offer Dragic more than the minimum which probably blows up any hopes of signing GPII.  We did hear GSW plans to resign Looney though and even tiny contracts cost Golden State an arm and a leg.  Is Moody ready?

I don't think its a lock that Dragic gets more than vetmin

This is incredibly distressing. Anyone else see the McMahon piece saying we offered only FVV type money? So we’ve known for weeks because Cuban wouldn’t go above a certain number?

I think it depends on the team that wants to sign him.  Specifically from the Mavs, if they lose JB, I could see desperation.

Aside:  Am I the only one shocked that GPII is 29?

Cuban said he COULD pay him more than anyone else….he never said he WOULD.

What is the pivot here for the more cap savvy among us. If we’ve known for weeks why did we not get in on the Knicks draft day deals? Is it so that we have access to the full MLE? Do we have that if Jalen walks for nothing?

This is absolutely my read on the situation.

And you know, if Cuban doesn't want to write a huge tax check to keep Brunson, that's fine. But, he effing knew that at the deadline. We didn't know then, but he did.

Pretty great to show your generational franchise player that you won’t spend to build a winner around him.

But hey look Luka…we will give your mentor a piece of the MLE so we don’t have to spend the whole thing.

Right but you sign GP2 first and then you aren't desperate anymore. I know Warriors like him a lot but he isn't super young (which is helpful for the Mavs) and they will prioritize other FA's Looney, OPJ who have bigger roles + giving more minutes to their first round draft picks.

GP2 should be able to carve out a larger role on the Mavs. Dragic would bring a different skillset to the table. I would be jazzed if we got both.

That will be the kicker, right? Dragic gets like 4.5m from our MLE, meaning we still have, in essence, only the TMLE; Only no Brunson.

I do not.

I think its definitely possible just bc Warriors have a lot of mouths to feed in terms of money as well as minutes

Mavs would still be in tax without JB

People need to understand that as bad as losing Brunson for nothing is, and it's really, really bad, it's an error that could eventually be recovered from.

What can't be recovered from is having cheapskate Cubes as your owner. He will, never, ever be willing to spend to build a winner around Luka. Just watch Christian Wood have a career year and then leave next season. Luka will be gone shortly after.

Thanks StepBackJay! That’s what i thought. So the GP II talk is in the hopes of getting him for TMLE? I think that’s absolute minimum he goes for. That would mean Dragic would have to sign for minimum. I think some savvy team (GS most likely) beats that offer for GP2

Luka, GPII, Bullock, DFS, Wood would be fun.  You could swap in THJ depending on the matchup and always have one of Bullock, DFS, GPII on the floor grinding on D.

I'm still hoping for the double SNT with the Knicks.  Robinson, Wood, Maxi is a nice rotation.

Ya its hard to say what his market is but given that Dallas is reported as a "serious suitor" makes me think that his market might be around that tax-MLE number. GP2 is a winning basketball player but doesn't put up a lot of big stats so its going to be contending type teams that will be most interested in him.

I think Dinwiddie would start but anything is possible. Also if Mavs say the starting SG is open for competition that could help persuade GP2. Having that kind of defensive pest next to Luka would be something.

If they sign Hardy to more than 2 years so they have bird rights and make him restricted then they will have to eat into the tax MLE.  Don't see any way the get GPII in that situation.  More likely the give the rest to Dragic and sign a vet min big.

Not surprised at all...I've been kinda expecting Brunson to leave. He's an east coast guy, that's probably where he wants to continue living after spending a few years in the south. If he flames out with the Knicks then he will probably try to go to Philly once his contract is up. I'm not going to blame the Mavs for what they could have done, I think in Brunson's mind (and his dad's), he wanted to move back east as long as a team offered him a fair contract. And in the Knicks case, I'd say that contract will be MORE than fair. No brainer for him to take it.
