Poll: With the current injuries, defensive struggles, and rumors swirling what would you do with KP?

Hold on to him! --- This will pass and he will be an elite player once he can get in game shape and put these unlucky injuries behind him.

Trade him this deadline in March! --- His value is possibly at the highest it will be and the Mavs need to get whatever they can in return for him.

Give him the rest of the season, then trade him this summer! --- Let KP get back and play himself back into shape/health and increase his trade value, but then move him this summer because clearly he is not the right fit next to Luka and with RC.

I like how he’s playing of course.  But every time he makes an explosive move, I hold my breath. If he gets his value back to 75-80% of where we’d like it to be, I’d still sell.  Injury seems inevitable.

So, who could Mavs get by selling high? I get the point that he could get injured. But when healthy, he is playing like a championship piece. Selling high, would mean getting another player that can play at that level, at very least. Who can play at that level, on both ends of the court?

I guess you have to play him to prove that he is not injured.  But I am firmly in the "use him sparingly" group to avoid another injury.

If the right deal emerges...move him.  If you are wanting to keep him and have playoff aspirations this year...play him every 3rd or 4th game until about 10 games left in the season.  Use those 10 games to get him in a rhythm for the playoffs.

I think it would be fairly similar situation to Simmons. You need a third team since Mavs are probably not really interested in a bunch of picks.

Mavs want to contend so what would they be looking in return is a good player or more of them. Another team that wants to contend is unlikely to trade that as they don't really improve doing that. I doubt there is a rebuilding team that would see KP as centerpiece of their rebuild. For example - why would Detroit trade Grant for KP? They don't really get better in the short term and they are playing the long term game. But something like KP to Washington, Bertans/KCP/Hachimura and a couple of picks to Detroit and Grant to Dallas could work.

I tend to agree with Cuban, it would be difficult to get out of KP trade better. I would rather hold my breath he will be available in the playoffs and trade for another "almost a star".

Oh, i'm not so sure I buy that he's so valuable, just yet.

I agree that he's looking better and better lately - no doubt. But, he still can't guard against pick-and-roll teams down the stretch, and it's a pretty good bet that his next significant injury is right around the corner. Plus, look how far out of their way the team has had to go to get him to this level of impact.

I am simultaneously pleased with what the Mavs have been getting from KP lately and wishing he was not part of the team. I don't expect everyone to be there with me, but that's where I am, and it's not a bit.

Yeah, the comments KP has made about Luka is great.   I think KP realizes he is never going to be Luka, but he wanted to be treated differently than a DFS type.   Treat him as your 1B or clear 2.    I think he feels like he is being viewed that way this year.    Instead of you can shoot when you are open like DFS, but now we are going to look for you and keep you engaged.  If that means you give him a few clunky postups a game, fine.   If it means he gets to touch the ball only to rotate it, fine.   Just keep him engaged.   If he feels engaged the more likely he will run the court harder, defend better or not force a shot when he does get his hand on the ball.

Now he needs to prove he is up to the task and more importantly he can stay healthy and someone Luka can trust and count on.     But it has been a good start.

Question?

If he keeps doing what he's doing and the Mavs keep their record relevant, is KP an Allstar THIS year? Oh, AND he stays healthy..

I don't think he gets in this year, regardless of his level of play. I think his rep is a bit too much to overcome in time to supplant some of the guys who are already penciled in, even if those guys don't deserve to go.

If he holds this level solidly, non-stop until this time next season, I think he might have a shot.

Just my guess, though.

I think that tune changes if he does what he's been doing for the last handful of games through all of December. I mean, since he's been back from injury he's been putting up 23.9/8.9/1.3 with 2.3 assists (nice!) on 57/37.7/93.2 shooting.

23-24 ppg alone gets him in the conversation.
