2021-2022 MAVS NEWS: 4th in West | WCF loss [ARCHIVED]

Don't think you have to salary match if we are taking LM into the TPE.  I'm not sure what "Can't use the TPE with another player" means?  We can't combine the TPE with cap space, but we can spend roughly 12 mil a year (with raises) on Lauri using the TPE.  Does not matter what we send out.  Keeping JRich was very likely not an option.

Pretty sure that's not right.

I could be wrong, but I believe you cannot combine the TPE with another player in the trade. It would have to be TT and a second for something from CHI, then TPE for LM.

First thing that screams out is when Luka or Brunson miss time we will be playing Burke a lot of minutes at the point.  If we go into the season with this still being the case, it's hard not to consider this offseason complete failure.  Is Schroder that much of an asshole?

Only on the INCOMING side. OUTGOING players is different.

I'm not a cap expert, but I think the only limitation on the TPE is that you can't combine it with cap (or exceptions).  I don't think there are any restrictions on what you send out specific to the TPE.

So then how does that work on the money? We can send out Maxi and the TPE and sign LM to a $15M contract (or more)? I thought it was always 1 for 1 as far as players for TPE but picks can be added since there is no current monetary value, or something like that.

Cuban to Fish on if DSJ could return...

“We don’t have (any open) roster spots yet,” Cuban tells DallasBasketball.com when asked about potentially bringing Smith Jr. back. “But if that changes, it's a conversation to have.”

Fish drew attention to the word "yet"...

4 guards 6 centers...

Cuban was right about how good he did to improve the team...
Josh Green is a top 5 Mavs player...

TPE can't be combined with outgoing players.

Here is only one source that explains that, I will not go looking for CBA

So in this instance, are we trading TT, a second and the $10.8Mish TPE for a max LM SnT contract of $1.289M (TT's salary) plus $10.8Mish (TPE) plus the $100k difference for a total of $12.189Mish starting salary for 3 years with max raises?

Cuban has declared the era of the versatile wing to be over.  Now the question is: who handles the ball in the KP/Maxi/Powell/Brown/Bobi lineup?

Only one true power forward on the team and 0 big wing defenders so IMO our roster is still flawed like it was in the post season.

Laure Markkenan sort of reminds me of Julius Randle after he left the Lakers and went to New Orleans.

If we are to use that as the standard form of measurement then 2/22 Million with year 2 being a player option should work IMO.

I hope we get him because he is exactly what we need.

Ugh, so clunky! So in that scenario, we keep the $1.289M (TT's salary) in TPE or the full TPE goes to Chi and TT's salary just doesn't matter to the trade whatsoever and LM's SnT is still limited to the TPE amount? TT's salary is added on top of the TPE salary and has to stay within the rules of trade, but doesn't count as far as where LM's SnT contract starts at?

No. the TPE can not be combined with a player or cap space to match a salary bigger than the TPE.

We trade LM into our TPE which limits his salary to the size of the TPE.
We can send out TT and a 2nd for air in a separate trade.

Exactly. TT must be a separate deal

Edit: and yes, this is exactly why JRich contract would be more useful in this case. Still relatively easy to dump and could take back roughly 15 mil of salary with him alone.

Edit2: of course kudos to Mavs, if they can convince Markkanen to come for TPE money

I thought separate deals like that were an illegal salary cap circumvention (the other players, not picks).

What am I wrong about in the original post then?
