2021-2022 MAVS NEWS: 4th in West | WCF loss [ARCHIVED]
I would endorse KP for Siakam but lets not get crazy with Brunson and DFS.

If DP leaves, who is our expert rim roller?  WCS?  KP?  Not really ideal but maybe Kidd has a plan.

I'd do KP plus one of Brunson or DFS for Siakam, but not  all 3 of those players.

WCS has functioned well in that role at times. I wonder if Kidd's system will be simpler which might allow WCS to thrive and be more consistent. I still think WCS has the TALENT to be a starting center in this league. Just too inconsistent and unfocused.

I respect that. I just think I would do both to make it happen. The chance to restart the roster would be too appealing to me.

The idea that TOR doesn't want Powell in a trade for Dragic is possible, but the idea that they want Terry instead is fairly stupid. That is miles from being an acceptable salary match.

The fact is, for TOR to get out from under Dragic and his overpay, they (or someone) will have to take on some salary that is also somewhat bloated. Their alternative for a seriously overpaid 35-year old is not "find a properly paid player we want" (because no one is going to make them an offer like that) but rather keep him on your roster, or waive him. Or kill the Lowry deal.

Powell would be of use to them, and he's popular in Canada also. It's more likely, imo, that they are wrestling over the rest of such a 3-way deal, and/or who goes where, rather than being bothered by DP.

That's an interesting thought.

Yeah I wouldn't be mad if they had to include them all, but my preference would definitely be to keep 1 of them. Restarting the roster would be a great thing. I'm just hoping we still have a move or 2 left.

$33.5 million in cap space and the big acquisition is Reggie Bullock.  I actually like the player but this is like the Delon Wright offseason again.

getting turned down by Bobby Portis LMAO

I might be wrong, but I took it imply that they might be negotiating to get Terry (or something) WITH Powell. You don't pay any credence to that?

Yeah, that was a bit eyebrow raising. But, he did just win the championship there.

Would attaching any of those three assets be worth it?

I bet we'll see a variety of opinions on this.

No. These are positive value contracts / players with upside - lets remember that even though the Mavs want Dragic - at $19M, he is a negative value contract that Toronto took to get Achiuwa.  Mavs should not part with any positive value to land him.

I feel like we'd disagree about Dragic's on court/locker room value if I delved deeper, but I agree with your final assessment.

Is there any doubt that the Donnie/Cuban version of the front office does throws Terry in without a thought though? I think it will be pretty interesting to see what happens here (assuming this is even what's going on, I guess).

I think the Mavs have some leverage in that it's incredibly obvious Dragic wants to be in Dallas instead of Toronto. Both teams have incentive to make this happen, I don't blame Toronto for trying to extract extra value but I hope the Mavs don't give in. We're already helping them this year since Powell's salary is lower than Dragic's.

Oh, okay. And yes, I wouldn't be surprised if the teams are still negotiating at the margins.

But I don't think the big pieces are a sticking point for either side, as theorized. Both GD and DP have flaws in their desirability, but both have a useful place to the acquiring team as well.

Also, since it's a 3-way and MIA is getting the big prize, they may be involved. The Lowry deal really isn't set in stone.

There are also cap issues to consider all around. And the teams may be trying to find a structure/details that will maximize potential TPE's to take away from the deal. And the fact that the Mavs are sitting on a 10.9M TPE could come into play in re to either TOR or MIA.

What is the exact value? $10.865M?

I show 10,865,952 TPE to Dallas in that trade (and none to BOS, since Brown was traded with no guaranteed salary.)

I think it's all in the pro-nounce-ee-a-shun: "ass toot".
