He took a HUGE leap from like 3rd to 5th option on that Nuggets team to primary option in Detroit and has seen the results. You would think he would notice there's a compromise between those two which is exactly where he'd fit. He'd be the second to third option here and the primary option with certain lineups, ego is a hell of a drug....
The danger here is he'd be a black hole for the offensive flow if he's trying to establish himself as a #1 option.

The big gamble there is assuming that Simmons's trade value will still be the same this summer. Every day he doesn't play, his off-court issues become even more prominent than old memories of a good player. IMO, Morey is sitting on a declining asset that may never fetch the return he wants no matter how long he waits.

I agree but he would immediately be our most best two way player and fits very well next to KP and what Kidd is trying to do defensively (in my opinion).

But does it matter how good his skills are if his mindset will ultimately hurt the team?
Sure on paper Jerami Grant would be a fantastic fit. That is if he buys into the role the Mavs need him for. If he goes Harrison Barnes 2.0 by ices Luka out and tries to be a feature on offense, then I'm not too sure about his addition actually helping the Mavs.
Maybe there is some room on offense if Dodo is moved to the bench. I remember the Mavs having a very good winning% when DFS scores 10+ pts in a game. But I don't know if there are another 10-15 shots available with Luka/Brunson/KP in the game. Grant wouldn't be featured ever on this team.

I'm not even sure he is that great a fit. He is not a great floor stretcher. His offense is predicated more on volume than efficiency. He is a versatile defender but not elite. Honestly if you are going to put him in a starting lineup with Luka, KP and Brunson I would probably prefer DFS. I think he is a little better defender, and in that role offensive efficiency is more important than volume. The mindset between the two makes it an easy call.

I agree with this.
I was one of the first people into Grant here, mostly during his Denver time (a short window). I was out on him after that free agency when it became clear he was trying to turn himself into Kawhi Leonard. I don't think he has a very realistic vision for his career, and guys like that scare me. By contrast, DFS is the type to do literally anything asked of him about 10% better than what can be realistically expected. That's the type you want.
I think what's so alluring about Grant, fit wise, and what keeps bringing him back into these discussions is his body/movement combo. He's like the same size as Chriss (longer arms, I think) and yet he moves like DFS. That's the dream when it comes to the modern NBA 4, imho, especially when building around a 5 whose feet are a little on the slow side (Porzingis). This is why some of us refuse to let go of the Simmons dream, even though it's clearly unrealistic to think the Mavs have any shot there.
Grant COULD be amazing for pretty much any team, but "a primary offensive option" he is not, and so his attitude, combined with the likely price of such an acquisition, make him not such an ideal target for the Mavs, imho.

He would be the 5th along with these 4 if he was here.
I agree that his mentality can mess stuff up but he's also shown that he can play a role when necessary. When it comes to "how would Grant react to a new environment after his stint as the primary option" is all hypothetical talk but both sides have merit. His role would be much larger here than it was in Denver so personally I think it's something that he would embrace quickly.
(While we're somewhat on the subject, Grant is a great example of why Klutch Sports is bad for the NBA)

From a floor spacing perspective I agree but he can put the ball on the floor which everyone on this team outside of Luka and Brunson have trouble with. Having him in the short roll position would be a huge improvement for us. Our deficiencies there were glaring in our last two Luka playoff series.
Also, I'm more focused on defensive fits these days and he would be perfect for what Kidd is trying to build. With the success we're having being predicated on defense I think it's important that the FO embraces Kidd's vision and really leans into that side of the floor. Holding opponents below 100 points is a good recipe for any team that has Luka running it's offense in my opinion.

I guess it depends on his definition of primary. He's not going to be "the guy" on a true contender, but he could part of your big three, even in Dallas. I'd call that "primary".

His value has tanked so hard. Don't even know what the Lakers could realistically get.

Three players I think would fit on this team and maybe realistic trade targets. The last two have decreased their value to due injury. But I doubt its long term for both, and they can really play.

If were talking about dream additions the guy I'm enamored with is Jaylen Brown. He's the ideal 2 guard next to Luka. I'd give KP and Brunson to make it work too.

Would Brown be after his offensively? Wasn't there an issue between him and Tatum where they were going tit for tat? And it was causing team issues. If I am remembering correctly...seems like there could arise issues between Luka and him.
Good player though

I honestly don't know. I do think Jaylen does not like having to let Tatum play iso-ball over and over. He was fine when he was basically a 3rd option when Boston had Kyrie and Hayward.
We haven't seen either one of Tatum or Brown next to a facilitator the likes of Luka. I think he'd flourish here.

Yeah, those two might both be selfish, but they might both be suffering because neither of them can facilitate for the other. If you subscribe to theory #2 then either of them could potentially be tailor-made to play with someone like Luka.

Both are black holes on offense. Brown had a game with 36 FGA and 0 assists this season. Tatum is having a Luka like season. Offensive efficiency not even close to his usual level. Luka still has his playmaking ability. For an iso scorer efficiency is even more important.

He showed improvement last year and he's still a baby. What's different about the Lakers this year and what is new on the Mavs?

I could be interested. Two questions:
1) What's the cost in trade?
2) Whose job does he take once he's here? In your mind, does he play in front of whoever is left of Bullock/Hardaway or come off the bench to spell them?
