Will Powell wear Mavs jersey in November

Atl: Okongwu 6 mil on a rookie deal
Bos: Williams 2 mil on a rookie deal or Thompson 9 mil (and we all know they regret Thompson badly)
Bkn: DeAndre 10,3 mil (big mistake, but with their payroll at 160+ mil it makes less damage)
Chi: Theiss at 5 mil
Cha: Biyombo at vet min
Cle: Do they even hava a back up C? Love? Nance? Both more PF than C.
Den: JaVale at 4 mil
Det: Stewart rookie deal
GSW: Looney at 4,8 mil
Hou: do they even have a back-up centre?
Ind: Goga on rookie deal
LAC: Zubac or Ibaka, combined 16 mil on centre position, basically neither played in the playoffs
LAL: Harrell at 9 mil and they regret it. Gasol played back up at 2,5 mil
Mem: Tillman on rookie deal
Mia: Dedmon on vet min
Mil: no back up centre
Min: Reid on rookie deal
NO: Hayes on rookie deal
NY: Noel for 5 mil
OKC: was Brown on rookie deal
Orl: Bamba on rookie deal
Phi: Howard on vet min
Pho: Saric for 8 mil
Por: Kanter for 5 mil
Sac: Whiteside for vet min
SA: Eubanks on rookie deal
Tor: Baynes for 5 mil (after they got Birch)
Uta: Favors for 9 mil and they regret it
Was: Lopez for 7 mil

Mavs are wasting cap at back-up centre position. There is just not enough minutes to justify that salary

I mean, this philosophy makes some sense in theory imo but realistically it depends and hinges almost entirely on what exactly is implied with the word “wasting”.

If theres a trade offer on the table for a starter who plays closer to the back court and offers similarly consistent production as Powell — sure, I’d guess most here would agree it’s likely a waste to not do that trade.

And I don’t wanna pidgeon-hole it to a simple 1for1trade either, to be fair to this philosophy. Something like clearing Powell’s cap space which allows for a free agent-signing of that type of player who actually wants to play in Dallas would also work.

But back to reality, is that trade or opportunity actually on the table right now?
Or is it all just theoretical philosophy?

Cuz otherwise, if it’s not reality then I’m not sure how throwing away 1 of our only 3 above average consistently productive players just to get him off the roster due to a theoretical salary-position philosophy would be the wise choice.
