As a prediction, I want to wait to see if they say anything in the press conference about general direction. I think it’ll be telling if they talk about ball handling help for Luka (THJ is gone). If they talk about frontcourt help, he may still be a casualty of trying to fix it there, but there is a chance he isn’t. In terms of percentages right now, I put it at 70/30 he goes.
My preference? I think he’s a tremendous asset at the right price. The right price? Somewhere in the $12-15M range. Enough to be a high end bench player, but not so much that he has to start.
He is a major obstacle to getting more ball handling help for Luka. If he had shot creation and ball distribution in his repertoire, there would be no question if he was staying or going. As it is, he takes up a lot of minutes in a position that mostly gives those needs.
Another problem for this team when discussing THJ’s role here is the presence of DFS. If we had someone like Hayward in that spot that can create and distribute, THJ could be who he is and we would be fine.
