The Celtics lined up a job interview with him to replace Stevens. He interviewed for the Knicks job last year. He's obviously highly thought of around the league, not just in the Mavs organization.
He has interviewed for many jobs, as one of the dozen candidates teams interview and he never was a finalist for a job. IIRC he has interviewed for Rockets job too and his colleague got the job.
That isn't a positive (or negative) sign to me tbh. He was an assistant of a future HOF coach and stable/successful organization. It is normal he will be considered.

But if you're the new GM and you're looking for a new HC and you don't have strong ties to any available candidates out there I imagine Mosely would be top of the list. You have a candidate who is highly thought of around the league AND ALSO knows every current player in the lockerroom backwards and forwards AND ALSO has built strong relationships inside the building AND ALSO has a great connection with the 22 year old face of the franchise: That's a very appealing option to me. It's not like "Oh, we got to give the new head coach a full year to feel out the roster, get to know the players inside and out, find out what the like and don't like, the best way to communicate with them and approach them, etc" We don't have a year to waste.
-Steve Kerr came in and immediately changed the Worriers, you don't always need a year to feel the roster.
-If we don't have year to waste, then we better hire the absolute best coach of those available, rather than getting a mediocre one just because he is already here. No need for another Avery Johnson.
