I really agree that the Flagg situation is double A top number 1 for me. However...he will not play in a vacuum. Basketball is a team sport. There has never been anyone who could single handily carry a team to a championship. Flagg won't be that man either. But...I am very encouraged that he can be part of a championship team after a few years.
I'm also interested in what Nembhard can do. I'm hoping there will be a parallel situation between Jalen Brunson and Nembhard. Some of you may remember that Brunson didn't do well in the summer league. I'm thinking that was because he was playing a "team" game while most of the others--in summer league--are playing in a free for all, trying to impress some team enough that they will be chosen. The "Ball Hog." It was different when Brunson played with his regular team where everyone had a role (that they mostly followed.) Yeah...it took Brunson a few yeays to get up to speed but he damned sure did. I'm hoping this is the same situation with Nembhard. I see siimilarities.
Neither AD or Kyrie are Batmen. Sure...Kyrie would take that mantle for a time, but he diidn't like it and/or, at his age his body will not tolerate it. I don't expect Kyrie back any time soon--if at all-- this season. If there is any question I would prefer that he take off the entire year.
AD, AD, AD...how many games will he play? That is the question. I hope I'm wrong...but...
If neither Kyrie (who won't be there) and AD are not Batmen--who does that leave? Flagg? Is it possible for a rookie to be the Batman? I don't know. I think Flagg may already be shouldering too many expectations. I think he may meet them...in time. But--he's a rookie!
Is it possible the Mavs can have a Batman by committee? Interesting thought. I don't think it is possible. We may have to find out.
This is going to be an interesting year. I wish it would start.
