Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - ItsGoTime - 08-27-2025 I think this Flagg situation has peaked my interest for this season. I’m really interested in seeing what the starting lineup will be and what lineups play the best to start the season. I am REALLY interested in seeing if and how Nembhard looks on the court as well as if Williams was a flash in the pan. Would have liked to have been able to ink Jones to the team replacing Powell with him, but there’s still enough stuff to watch out for to be looking forward to. What are your thoughts? What storylines intrigue you the most? Who here would join in the “Fire Nico” chant ingame or is that old news in your opinion? RE: Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - ballsrchr - 08-27-2025 I really agree that the Flagg situation is double A top number 1 for me. However...he will not play in a vacuum. Basketball is a team sport. There has never been anyone who could single handily carry a team to a championship. Flagg won't be that man either. But...I am very encouraged that he can be part of a championship team after a few years. I'm also interested in what Nembhard can do. I'm hoping there will be a parallel situation between Jalen Brunson and Nembhard. Some of you may remember that Brunson didn't do well in the summer league. I'm thinking that was because he was playing a "team" game while most of the others--in summer league--are playing in a free for all, trying to impress some team enough that they will be chosen. The "Ball Hog." It was different when Brunson played with his regular team where everyone had a role (that they mostly followed.) Yeah...it took Brunson a few yeays to get up to speed but he damned sure did. I'm hoping this is the same situation with Nembhard. I see siimilarities. Neither AD or Kyrie are Batmen. Sure...Kyrie would take that mantle for a time, but he diidn't like it and/or, at his age his body will not tolerate it. I don't expect Kyrie back any time soon--if at all-- this season. If there is any question I would prefer that he take off the entire year. AD, AD, AD...how many games will he play? That is the question. I hope I'm wrong...but... If neither Kyrie (who won't be there) and AD are not Batmen--who does that leave? Flagg? Is it possible for a rookie to be the Batman? I don't know. I think Flagg may already be shouldering too many expectations. I think he may meet them...in time. But--he's a rookie! Is it possible the Mavs can have a Batman by committee? Interesting thought. I don't think it is possible. We may have to find out. This is going to be an interesting year. I wish it would start. Since I chant "Fire Nico" every day I don't think it would be any problem for me to do it during a game. Any game. Every game! RE: Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - Chicagojk - 08-27-2025 Just enjoy watching basketball with this season. No expectations. No target win totals, just enjoy watching them. Hopefully the start of a good team and not a bleak no future timeline we were heading towards. Also no more massive f-yous from the front office to the fanbase. That would be nice. RE: Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - michaeltex - 08-27-2025 I'm looking forward to watching the team develop chemistry together. In particular, I'm interested in how the youngsters develop, namely Flagg/Nembhard/Williams. I'd throw Lively in that as well if they let him move outside more on offense. I'm also interested in whether this team is actually as good defensively as some projections indicate. Also, whether being a beast defensively actually helps in the W-L columns. I'm also really curious about the defense. Safe to say it would have been a juggernaut back in about 2009 when so much revolved around quality 2 point shots in the half court. This group can stop those. Will the 3 point shot break them? Will they be too slow to defend in transition? I feel like the people already pencilling them in as an elite defense are living in the past a bit (and maybe Nico is too) RE: Are you looking forward to the season? I admit that I checked out of the season once AD and Kyrie went down. I was already numb from the sudden Luka trade, and my head and heart just couldn't handle that added level of "bummer," once the injuries started to pile up. I hit the summer kind of assuming Williams would be an afterthought and have been surprised by how much support he has had around here this summer. It kind of reminds me of the "bubble Burke" phenomenon a bit. The sample size was obviously small, and kind of like Grimes in Philly, Williams was in a situation wherein he HAD to handle the ball and score, so I imagine a ton of players could've looked pretty good in that situation. There's a strong chance he doesn't look as good when he has to function within the confines of a team actually trying to win, rather than just survive, but then again, if Williams IS as good as some hope...that could potentially be a ceiling raiser for the season. RE: Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - ThisIStheYear - 08-27-2025 Looking forward to it in the same way I did Luka’s rookie season. It’s all about Flagg and whether he can become the basketball hero the city of Dallas needs. RE: Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - Jym - 08-27-2025 Just hope Nico doesn't do anything too stupid tradewise. The "worst case" scenario for this season should end with another lottery pick. And that wouldnt be a bad place to end up honestly RE: Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - Scott41theMavs - 09-01-2025 After the Luka trade, and in spite of the Flagg acquisition, NCAA women's volleyball has far eclipsed men's pro basketball in my sports interest. Once the December tournament is over, I'll check back on the Mavs, to see how AD's health has looked, how close Kyrie is to coming back, Flagg's progression, and how the team has held up without Kyrie. Positive answers to all of those could pique my mid-season interest in the Mavs. RE: Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - rocky164 - 09-02-2025 I am looking forward to the season which I wouldn’t have been able to say before we drafted Flagg. I look forward to watching his development. I am also anxious to see Lively healthy most of the season and see if he can continue to develop into an All Star or semi-All Star caliber center. I’m looking forward to seeing Kyrie back and see how he does after the injury. I still miss Luka tremendously. It was almost impossible for me to watch the team last year without him. Along that same line I have a difficult time cheering for AD. All I can see in AD is a hated Laker and a reminder of the Luka trade and the catastrophically dismal return Nico got in that trade. This season can go multiple ways. If we have injury issues and Kyrie doesn’t come back or doesn’t come back similar to his old self this could be a lottery team. However, if everyone stays relatively healthy and Kyrie is back mid-season, doing Kyrie things this could be a 4-6 seed team that would be a difficult playoff matchup for almost any team to face. Lots of unknowns which will make the season something worth following. RE: Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - Chicagojk - 09-02-2025 Looking at the West, there will be several teams who will be very disappointed in their season. Some will be explained away due to injury. Some will not cause major moves, but it will be interesting to see what happens with some of these teams. 1) OKC- No panic and I am not sure how they will wind up with not one of the best records in the league 2) Houston- Don't think a bad season will have much impact on their decision making. Their roster has a good mix of veterans and youth. I would think they would work around the edges 3) Denver- They appear pretty tied to this roster. Not sure what a big shakeup would entail 4) Minny- I could see something here. Two time conference finals team. A poor season may lead to a little bit of a shakeup 5) Golden State- Not sure what they could do, but a poor season opens up a ton of questions 6) LA Clippers- Could lead to some big questions about Harden and Leonard. Although they appear to be playing the two timeline thing and looking to re-load in 2027 with cap space 7) Lakers- This could get interesting, if they fall back. Their plan may stay the same, but there could be a lot of drama 8) Dallas- Who freakin knows 9) San Antonio- Appear positioned well, but questions will be asked if they can't win in Wemby year 3 10) Portland- Invested in some older players, what happens if it doesn't work? 11) Memphis- Very interesting decisions they have. There is a chance they could wind up with 2 lottery picks in this draft. Do they continue down the road with Ja or do they decide to shake things up? 12-13-15 Sacremento,PHX, New Orleans--I have no idea what either franchise does...winning may not impact what some of their decision ars. RE: Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - myconsumerclub - 09-02-2025 I am looking forward to our team adding even more young players or trading off guys that we can consider excess talent to empower our post AD Kyrie Klay playoff chances. Eventually we will need a stud PG and a stud SG. Cooper PJ Lively and Gafford should be sufficient with the frontcourt but the backcourt will need more help in the next few years. I also hope that Martin and Hardy can increase their worth and value to other teams so that we can make a trade by the TDL especially for picks. I also look forward to eating a good meal while I am watching every game they play to double my enjoyment. RE: Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - myconsumerclub - 09-07-2025 https://www.instagram.com/p/DN3P9z4Yo7C/?img_index=18 Just found this play ranked in the top 100 and its our newest starting PG DLO. I guess you can add his play as being something worth rooting for if you want to see it improve back to what he had when he was hitting 40% and a potential all star that somewhat fell short of expectations and if he can find a way to improve beyond what he did in his past then we have a 3rd guy in the backcourt that is making the rotation more playoff worthy behind Klay and Kyrie once he returns to full strength. B Will and Nembhard could be an interesting fight for PT and Exum is someone that I see playing SG or PG on an as needed basis. His 40% shooting could make him useful at either position since he has SG size as well. With almost every PG having 40% 3 point shooting potential we may be seeing a lot of 3 pointers and with our front court we may be seeing them doing a lot of rebounding and winning that battle when our guys shoot 3's so let it fly if you have guys that can hit the 3 on board and hope our FC can get us those extra shot attempts or any easy dunk in those situations. RE: Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - F Gump - 09-07-2025 "Exum is someone that I see playing SG or PG on an as needed basis." Your take is probably the prevailing one among Mavs fans and media regarding Exum, but I think it's off by quite a bit. I strongly believe that as long as he's healthy, Exum WILL play, and probably quite a lot, because he's just about the exact PG that Kidd prefers - good ball handler, runs the offense well, excellent at shooting 3s, and a plus defender. The Mavs need more than him at PG (or combo G) because his ability to stay healthy is iffy, but I expect that when he's healthy we will see him play basically every game, and around 20 mpg. RE: Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - DL2RimRocker - 09-08-2025 It's all about health to me. If this team stays healthy I think we are a legit top 5 team. The west is so deep with talent that the top 7 or 8 teams should be knocking each other off regularly to maintain parity (of the top 8) and keep record percentages at low enough levels to catch when Kyrie returns. The key is to remain in the top 8 until Kyrie returns and then make a push for the a top 4 spot. That is what I look forward to. If we are in the bottom 7 by the time Kyrie returns, it wont make much of a difference because it will indicate there was disappoint ment from the rest of the squad in one way or another (health, talent, chemistry, etc...). At that point I will be looking forward to the development of our youth (especially Christie and Nembhard) and subsequently a high draft pick. RE: Are you looking forward to the season? Yeah, Omax wasn't released to make room for an end of the bench player. Exum is about the only guard on the roster who plays defense so he'll be a key rotation player. RE: Are you looking forward to the season? What are you looking forward to? - Jym - 09-08-2025 Hopefully can get a good bounce back year from Exum. Easy to forget he was the 3rd or 4th best player for stretches during the 23/24 season RE: Are you looking forward to the season? If the quoted bit was meant to suggest that Exum will play only "as needed," I agree with you. It occurs to me that the comment might have been meant to suggest that the time Exum will play might be divided between those positions on an "as needed" basis, in which case I kind of see where the original commenter (not sure who it was) might be coming from. |
