I hate that the Mavs didn't entertain this.

I think there's a couple of ways to look at this:

1. They might have tried to work a trade behind the scenes but it didn't work out (which would explain why they let it linger so long)

2. They had no interest in a trade but aren't experienced/skilled enough to work the media behind the scenes (which would explain why they let it linger so long)
