Even after I see if the pieces moved are minimal, I just don’t know what to think. I did watch Klay highlights last night. I remember a few Mavs games he was pretty bad last year.
I have similar thoughts on Josh Green. Maybe on of my most frustrating Mavs in a while. Has a lot of the things I want in a player and seems like a great teammate. Still young! I wanted so bad to be in the front of the bus on team Josh. He is either in the wrong role, not quite ready for the role, or just can’t sustain that level of play. He has had moments where I thought he made the jump. But something always came up. I still think he can reach that level. I also think Kidd and the front office wanted more from him. I don’t think they ever fully bought in that the fully realized Green was eminent.
Even though I am unsure of Klay I will not like it if we lose DJJ. I expect the Mavs take care of DJJ and he starts. You never know though.
As a card carrying member of the Hardy fan club, I am feeling these moves and potential moves are going to make it hard for him to be here long term, I think. Omax is still young and will need time, but things are getting crowded there too. I still think he will eventually have a role here though.
Any chance Powell is moved too?
I´d say there are many variations of a Klay trade.
Green + Kleber
Green + Powell
Green + Powell + Lawson
I´ll say this. IF they have to do this, I´d prefer they offer him the biggest possible two year deal now, with an intent to re-sign him on a lower figure in two years. Our problems start when Luka, Kyrie, Lively, Gafford and Washington become extension eligible (on top of Grimes/Hardy next year). So then it would be lot easier if Klay stayed on the BAE, instead of still sitting on +$20M guaranteed.
My biggest problem besides the huge injury risk is also that Green carries some trade value for a tanking team like Portland, Utah or Charlotte, so on paper you can reduce the costs, when you acquire a Grant/Simons/Sexton/Bridges (one instead of two 1sts for example) or whoever. In a Klay deal he´s just a salary-matching vehicle for us.
