Can Mavs Trade Omax???

I enjoy Killer's schtick (or position) as much as anyone.  But the answer to your question is 'of course we can'.  In fact, OMax is far more logical as a trade chip for Siakam than guards like Green and Hardy.  Toronto has guards.  What they don't have is someone to replace Siakam and occupy that space between Poeltl and Barrett, Barnes, Quickly and presumably Hardaway.  The fact that OMax is Canadian is an added benefit.  But, if given the choice, I suspect Toronto would prefer Kuminga all things being equal.

That brings up an interesting comparison.  Kuminga is actually younger than OMax.  Pull up a highlight game of Kuminga and the best G-League highlights you can find of OMax.  The difference is pretty stark.  IF GS is considering Kuminga in a deal, we can certainly consider OMax.

A team that has Siakam, GWill and DJJ (not to mention our PF-sized PG) can probably live without OMax.  In fact, finding minutes for him would be quite challenging.

If we remove the emotional investment we have in OMax because he's our guy or we knew (even before the draft) that he was going to be great, then this makes some sense.  If, in the summer, I told you we could drop down two positions in the draft and move Bertans and THJ for Siakam, would anyone have said no?  If we add 2027 that's still a good deal.  

I kind of suspect OMax is getting some G-League run right now to showcase him as much as to develop him.  He's a man among boys there and looks far different than he looks against pro's.  THJ has to be in any deal for Siakam.  He and THJ make $20.5mm.  You have to get a little over $30mm to match Siakam and unless Toronto is cutting someone, you have to add some salary beyond that to take back someone small like Temple or Koloko.  Any of Maxi, Holmes of GWill gets you there.  Which one goes out and what kind of draft compensation is added are the questions to be answered in the most simple/direct version of this.  That version causes issues for Dallas next summer, but adding a second of those salaries (or Green) gets us room in 2024/25 to retain DJJ.

I personally think any Siakam deal HAS to include OMax from Toronto's perspective.  The better question is whether we can trade the other stuff they might want and still field enough depth to support our Big 3.  The other question is what does the team look like after giving up those players if Siakam walks.  We took that risk (DFS, SD and an unprotected pick) with Kyrie.  I'm not sure why, if faced with the same decision, the team wouldn't do the same thing with Siakam...even if OMax is part of the deal.  It doesn't mean I don't like OMax.  I'm just closer to the position that says if you have Luka and Kyrie and Lively and can add Siakam to that...you do it and try to win now.

Totally agree with this. Another thing to note. Siakam and Omax have same agent. I would think that this is an additional factor making it likely Omax is moved if Mavs can strike a Siakam deal. Agent puts both clients in good position. Siakam on a contender with a window to compete for title in next couple of years. Omax on retooling team where he is likely to get more opportunity to develop into what his ceiling is.
