This idea that they "never really wanted Kemba" is something that was 100% invented in this community and has somehow gained traction, probably because people seem to more willing to believe things the more they read them. They wanted the dude badly.

I'm not saying they didn't want Kemba.  I just think that was probably a kicked tire too that the MBT quickly realized wasn't a reality and moved on from and that the press ran with.

Yeah, too much overt smoke for it not to be true.

If it's true that they've ALREADY moved on, rather than waiting to get their meeting and run out the ground ball, THAT would indicate a fairly positive change, imo.

Gotcha. Yeah, maybe. Didn't mean to put words in your mouth - I read your post like it was an adoption of one our favorite myths. I get your point, now.

I think it was very strange that they wanted to test this pairing at this price.  I figured they would have been shopping Allen hard for some help on the wings but Mobley can probably be paired with anyone to be honest.

Here's the thing. The Mavs are either so bad at free agency (and as an organization) that even the guys with the huge agents connections won't come to them (like Lowry and Kemba) OR the Mavs allow themselves to be used by agents to pump up the value of their clients as a favor.

Of course it could be some combination of the two....but my point is that my gut says the Mavs are allowing themselves to be used as leverage when the reports are OVER THE TOP and CONSTANT about their connection to a player.

Smoke only from Stein (that I think Hollinger was repeating). Woj and Shams never connected the Mavs to Lowry as far as I remember.

KP/DP for Hayward/Graham.

That would be insane.  Plenty of money to get Holmes and another piece.

I didn't take it that way.  I'd guess the old MBT knew prior to free agency starting that Kemba wasn't an option much like the new MBT knowing that Lowry isn't an option.  I'd also like to think that they'd pass given his salary wants, but that doesn't appear to be the case which is alarming from where I sit.  Maybe modern NBA team building is just going all in every year.  *shrug*

Woj and Shams absolutely both connected Dallas to Lowry. Come on now.

I guess my thinking is that if the Jordans want LM, why not KP?

Not to mention Fisher, who is absolutely well connected.

No doubt! Don't need a meeting these days. Just ask the agent during the tampering period.

And that's fine...BUT, it seems like you frequently come to these dot connections in situations wherein YOU, personally, don't understand/agree with the attraction to the player in the first place.

And, because you're a great, frequent contributor who responds often with your theories, they become gospel over time, and then three years later our choices are 1) accept your version or 2) spend hours looking for three year old tweets and articles.

Not to be taken as a plea for you to do anything differently, just a vent.

And, I actually think Donnie/Cuban, as a combo, WERE pretty bad at free agency. I don't disagree that they'd do the odd favor for an agent, but IF they were doing that in Kemba's case, it certainly didn't benefit them in any tangible way. And them seemingly being in on virtually every available PG since then, regardless of their representation, lends credence to the idea that they really think another ball-handler is needed here.

My impression was that Kemba was done deal to Mavs until Horford surprisingly opted out and Boston had room they were not expecting.

This is true....when a player makes very little sense to me no matter how hard I try, then I assume the guys WAY smarter than me can also see that.

Mavs wanting Kawhi? DUH.

Mavs wanting Lowry so obsessively as THE target and not just as a guy on the right kind of deal? Makes no sense to me.
