2021 FREE AGENCY: Markkanen wants out of CHI | DAL "definitely interested"
I have no doubt he’d like a second chance. The question is if the team feels the same way. https://twitter.com/fishsports/status/14...95969?s=21

I´d sign DSJ´s dog, if that means I don´t have to see Trey Burke play another minute in a Mavs uniform. Big Grin

Before this season I would’ve said Maxi’s shot blocking but that seems to have disappeared from his game. The larger point is that as much as we like Maxi, his production is replaceable.

I’m not gonna go as far as to say Maxi is not replaceable, but I like him as a player a lot. His combination of size, activity, versatility, shot blocking as you mentioned, 3-pt shooting, et all.. I think he is of great value in this style of nba.

I would not include him in a deal where the upside is unknown. But I would include him in a deal if it were obvious we were getting the best player in the deal.
Thank you Donnie.

DSJ humm.

I’d definitely take an interview with him to see what he’s learned since he’s been in the league.
Thank you Donnie.

I would take him back in a heartbeat. I've always liked DSJ. I was high on him when he was drafted. He just needed to be humbled a bit. Kidd would definitely be the right coach for him. I still say he has potential to be a very good player in the right situation.
We didn't make the cut but thanks for all the support!

Wait, is DAJ coming with him to protect him from Luka? No? Sure, I’d like to see if he’s better than 15mpg Burke and afraid of his shadow Tyrell Terry!

My first reaction is no, but I don't care enough really.  I would imagine DSJ is more mature than when he left us.

If Luka is fine with it, then I am okay.

My biggest hang up would be, do "we" really want him to take a percentage of our offense.  I can't imagine he is a Bob type of player.

I think Burke is a better shooter than DSJ and I would rather Terry get some playing time as well.

If DSJ were to outshine any of those guys, then maybe he has a small role here.

Bring the prodigal son home.  Nice symmetry with Kidd, eh?  Couldn't get along with others, got shipped out.  Came back and nurtured Dirk and got a ring.

DSJ could do the same with Luka......

Maybe it is just me but I think you missed a few details. Things that happened inbetween.

7 allstar games
6 all NBA teams (5x 1st, 1x 2nd)
9 all defense teams (4x 1st, 2x 2nd)
2 NBA finals appearances.

I've heard it both ways.

If there's a choice between DSJ and Burke then I'd definitely go with DSJ.

I get that at this stage of his career he'd probably be grateful to go to any NBA team, but I think it shows some maturity/growth that he would be good to go back to Dallas considering how things ended with him as a Mav.

I definitely think he's gotten plenty of helpings of humble pie recently... From Alpha dog to afterthought will do that for you.

He's needs a fresh start with some feel good and Luka Magic.  And we need an athletic guard that can get his own shot.... Can he do that?  Not sure, but a minimum contact is a small price relatively to find out.

The fish article mentioned improved DSJ defense. I haven't watched him much since he left the mavs.  Any truth to the defensive improvement?

Should read "DSJ scratching and clawing to remain in the league."

No, thank you.

He already looked a lot better on defense in his 2nd season with the Mavs. At least on the ball. If I am not completly wrong he even had a game winning block in the last few seconds of a game. Shooting percentages were improving as well. I wasn´t as high on DSJ but he really screwed himself. It´s not like he wasn´t improving in Dallas. Just couldn´t handle the lesser role next to Luka.
Cannot really explain what happened afterwards. He had some bad luck with injuries but that´s not enough to explain why he declined so badly.
