THJ is younger than both and had just as good if not better seasons than them. Crazy to call him untradeable with that contract.
I'd say THJ is a neutral value at best. I hope his contract is structured like Buddy Loves. I know it is early in free agency but we haven't raised our ceiling one inch. Everything relies on KP improving and Luka and KP figuring out how to play together.

The most straightforward path is to trade Powell and WCS for air and sign him to a max offer sheet.

Mavs have commitments from THJ and Boban, not necessarily signed contracts. Mavs still have flexibility to submit their deals after other deals and operate over the cap.

But why would the Mavs pick up WCS option in the first place then?

I really truly think that with an addition of Dragic alone the Mavs ceiling would be raised by a factor of 10.

So can we sign someone for a lot and then sign Boban and THJ last going over the cap?

Then make it Maxi. The main point is that we have a decent amount of flexibility with THJ on a reasonable deal.

THIS
Draft night has also passed, so far we’ve had an ‚uncreative‘ offseason at best. That THjr contract is fair value at best, certainly not a negotiation success story.

How reasonable THJ's contract is aside, until the contract is finalized, there is a ton of flexibility depending on how the Mavs want to operate the cap.

Bogdan is a much better play-maker than THJ. Not even close. Bojan is a better defender and scorer. Both are also either the 3rd or 4th best player on their respective teams, arguably not that far off the 5th best player. On our team THJ is arguably the 2nd best player and our 5th best player is Maxi Kleber?
The Jazz 5th best player is Joe Ingles. The Hawks 5th best player is either Capela, Hunter or Gallinari?
Context matters.
If this was 60/4, it´s probably tradeable, 18.5 for four fully guaranteed years. Yikes.

That´s progress. Usually the Mavs let a guy like THJ walk and replace him with a worse player on a one year deal.

DEFINITELY NOT SIGNED. At this point, every mentioned deal is a) verbal, b) not actually announced, c) trades might be added onto, or add other teams, and d) all is subject to being eventually submitted in a desirable order.

Pretty sure you have that backwards...
The Cap holds on THJ and Boban are much higher than their new contracts start - so we are currently over the cap... when those contracts get submitted and then we relinquish the Richardson TPE we would have cap space (I think about 12-14 million to start)

I would happily take over, but I'm out the door myself.

I think what's being missed is that this was Cubes plan all along. He probably wants to see how this plays out and add to that core. That's why he brought in Nico was to be a closer to get big time FAs to add to KP and Luka. Then, Kidd is a player friendly coach.
Realistically, I don't think Cuban has thought all of this through. Meaning that I don't think he planned on RC quitting when Donnie got booted. So, he brought in Kidd based on RC's recommendation and that of Dirk, Finley, etc.
Don't expect a ton of change. Luka will get better definitely. Hopefully, we'll see KP get back to somewhere close to what made him an all-star. But, I think the first couple of years of this new set up are going to be just seeing what the fallout is from Donnie being gone and how this team as constructed can grow together.
Legler: "If Luka wins this year, against a healthy Celtics team, at his age, the league is in trouble."

Disagree. THJ is a much better version of the Powell scenario. I hate the contract we gave him so much.
