I'm adamant in my take on THJ, which is that he's great for the Mavs - as a sixth man. Even then, he's less than ideal, because he can't create his own shot (which is what you want from a sixth man). He cannot start next to Luka because of defense. He's JET. Don't Cut the Check.

I know that defense and playmaking as are a premium and a need, but shooting and scoring at THJ's level is an asset as well.

so what if Mavs plan is to get Lowry near a max deal on a 2 year deal but they lose THJ to do so. 
With the cap clearing pan, they may have enough to give Dragic a deal and then use the room exception on someone. 

Luka, Lowry, DFS ? KP
Brunson, Dragic, Room exception, Kleber, cheap center. 

The main issue with this plan is cap matching for trades will just be impossible this year. you would only be able to get up to somewhere around 20 mill until Dragic became available. 

if you sign Lowry in FA, THJ would be useful to sign just for salary matching
