Jesus, if THAT is the real list, then Mosley should absolutely be the hire.
But I'd take Carlisle over any three of them, combined.

I just don't see how Mosley gets odds like that without assuming that Finley is the Donnie replacement.
But it does sound like Mosley would have an edge in any interview process here with any GM based on his relationship with the players.

RE: Fisher
Like others have said, I would not trust Fish on this other than bringing one side of the story. He was always Donnie's mouthpiece and all his good info came from Donnie.
A few years ago it seemed like Fish's real info started to slide.....I now suspect that Fish's lack of real info correlated exactly with Donnie's loss of power. I bet Donnie has been without real power for a few years now.

He is a great basketball mind at least IMO. Something the Mavs need.
I love Joerger also but he's basically a younger Carlisle. He butts heads with players and management because of his prickly personality.

I think Tony Ronzone was a source for a lot of Dallas local media.

I thought about former Suns coach and Luka's old Slovenian coach Igor Kokoskov. He actually coached with Mosley in Cleveland for one year. He is known as a smart coach with lots of NBA experience. However, there were reports that he had trouble connecting/communicating with his players in Phoenix and may be better suited as an assistant than HC.
If Mosley gets the job, I'm not sure if he'd want to come here as an assistant though - he left the Kings staff last year to go be the HC of a team in Europe.

I personally feel like the Mavs need a established coach to handle Luka and we need someone that will command his respect. I'm just not sure we can chance this with a assistant coach hire. If we get the next 2-3 years wrong, I think it's pretty obvious at this point that Luka will be out. I'm not saying Luka did any of this on his own, however it was done for him/because of him.

Tim McMahon listed a few likely candidates for the Mavs HC job:
-Jamahl Mosley
-Jason Kidd
-Terry Stotts
Edit: sorry, this was on The Hoop Collective podcast with Windhorst.

I would support all three. But coach is the LEAST of my concerns.
My number one concern is a GM who can put talent together around Luka and do it while getting Cuban to listen and defer.

I don't think Fish was ever all that reliable in the first place.

I'm taking this sudden, forced confrontation with the seedy parts of Mavs basketball we have all thought but not said aloud a little harder than most, I suppose. I will either get over it or find a new hobby. Time will tell.
What I'm not going to do is talk myself into believing everything is magically going to be better without evidence of it. The coming hires will tell us quite a bit, I think.

You'll always have Dirk and that's okay. That should also give you comfort. Dirk is my favorite athlete ever mostly because he's a really good person. And that really good person has stuck with the Mavs and all of their messes. I'd peace out too if Dirk distanced himself but here we are.

Interesting that Finley would be in the meeting discussing how to move forward and the GM search. Would be odd to include one of your candidates in the conversations about the job.
Maybe Cuban wants to mimic the Heat. Dirk, Fin and I would assume JJB can fill FO roles the way the Heat have Mourning and Battier.
Which would leave them needing a GM and their Pat Riley....and in that case you just really have to hope Cuban doesn't think he's the Pat Riley.

Allow me to take a cautious peep on the bright side. (I know you already know all this, KL, but for the sake of discussion.)
In the case of big shakeups like this, the organization is not necessarily looking for replacements who are BETTER at their jobs than the people leaving. They're looking for someone DIFFERENT. New blood, fresh ideas, people who have seen different things, have come up along different paths, have different relationships, maybe some strengths that the previous people didn't have (along with some weaknesses, to be sure).
I'm not sure a better tactician is out there than Rick. But there actually might be a person who is a little more of a people person, relates a little better to young guys, is more of a relationship manager, and you might get 80-90% of Rick's tactical skill with some assistants. And with a new GM, you get another set of relationships, another perspective, someone with a different set of experiences in team-building.
Of course, if you promote from within, some of that doesn't apply. (You may have a different face, but may or may not get a different approach.)
I don't comment on Mosley's ability as a coach. But if he is hired because Luka likes him, I don't know that that is such a great idea. Now, from all accounts, Luka considers Mosley a friend. When your friend is promoted to being your boss, that doesn't necessarily bode well for the relationship. If he is chosen, I will, of course, hope for the best.

YES. I strongly hope that Cuban is looking at MIA and see that he should be structuring his organization similarly.
