2020-2021 ROSTER TALK: Archived

If there’s a chance he becomes available that would be a significantly more important addition than any of the non allstar FAs we’re currently trying to talk us into on this board.

We need changes throughout the organization. The results haven’t been good enough for a long time. Coaching, GM should all be up for change.

"It's like I have a concussion," 28-year-old Fournier told reporters after the Celtics' 129-119 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday.
"Right now, it's actually doing a little bit better. But at first it's like the bright lights were bothering my eyes and my vision was blurry and everything was just going too fast for me.
"At times, I'm really struggling to focus and my eyes keep struggling to focus on one thing. My depth perception is really bad right now. But I saw a specialist, she gave me some exercises and hopefully it will get better."

Started of really bad but has been a lot better in the last few weeks. 13/3/3 since the trade. Shooting 46% from three on nearly six attempts. 19/4/5 in may.

We see a lot of COVID patients who are recovering, and it seems that up to 1/3 or so of patients that were symptomatic may have prolonged symptoms. It’s certainly something I’ve considered introducing into the discussion after the playoffs are over as we turn our focus even more to retrospective evaluation and team building.

Yeah, seems like some people get really bad neurological symptoms and it can cross over the blood/brain barrier.

I try not to go overboard on being overly critical of Josh Richardson because I know he had it, and I suspect a lot of NBA players are still dealing with long term symptoms.  At the same time, his offensive numbers this year aren't really far off from last year (or his career averages really).

I think this also explains why Kleber hasn't been as good as last year, since returning from covid. That, and overuse. If you remember, he took longer to come back than the others on the team.

I'm curious what people think of Caurso's market.  He has been an advanced stats stud for a while.      Does he go for the  rMLE?   I'd certainly rather have him than Avery Bradley.  Honestly would probably rather have him than resigning JRich.  A Texas kid too, so maybe you might have an edge there money being roughly equal.

I would put him over that and Lakers can just keep him at whatever his top offer is.

His numbers are worse than last year, and last year was significantly worse than his last year in Miami.  The thought was his numbers were down last year due to the dysfunctional Philly offense, so the expectation would be for his numbers to be roughly his last year in Miami (and they are way off that).  I would not look at career averages for a young player who was getting better every year prior to Philly.

There is really nothing here that indicates "bad outlier" season from JRich this year offensively.  Looks like he built up a bit of a reputation putting on decent accumulative stats on a bad Heat team (before they got Butler) where his FGA per game were abnormally high because every other player on the Heat was washed up/injured/bad.   But the last two years with the Sixers/Mavs have just exposed him as a low end starter on a playoff team.

That may end up being the case now that we have this years (potentially Covid tainted) numbers.  But before this season started it looked like last year was the outlier, due to the situation on the Philly team.  I mean they were starting like 3 players who couldn't shoot.  It was a mess.  My guess is next year his three point percentage will regress to at least his career average and he will be a much more tolerable offensive player (although still not the secondary play maker we were hoping for).

Mavs can´t pay that with Porzingis on the roster and should not pay that period. Dude has lost his mind.

PF/C that make more than 20M next year

Davis
Love
Siakam
Porzingis
Giannis
Draymond
Adebayo
Randle
Gobert
Jokic
Embiid
Vucevic

I refuse to list spotrac PFs Tatum, Gallinari and Grant, cause they clearly are not capable of playing center.

So 12 guys, who are former All-Stars or All-NBA players.

I think at $15M+ he might have two suitors: Charlotte and Sacramento.

Warriors are gonna be hungry for a good stretch-5 after this. Pacers need to blow it up.

https://tradenba.com/trades/LHvM8KtqT

Do the Collins deal first and re-sign THJ

Luka / Brunson
Brogdon / THJ
DFS / Green
Collins / DFS
Turner / Powell / WCS

So that trade is probably the most common idea we have seen. That would assume the Warriors are willing to sell low on Wiseman (which they may?) as well as Pacers in full blow up mode. They would need to trade Sabonis as well if they are doing all that. Its a bit of a stretch.

The version I think might be more plausible is Minney + Wiggins to Pacers, Brog + Warren to Mavs.

I am also not convinced Pacers will blow things up given they had so many injuries this year. They might decide to run it back one more year.

RH is just a slightly better version of a fully healthy Powell.  I’m not really in favor of spending big money on a free agent acquisition that doesn’t have 40% potential from the three.  That’s just the way the NBA is now. You can only afford one guy on the floor who can’t shoot from range.

Powell's been playing well lately but it's a bit much to say Holmes has only had a slightly better year than him at his best. Holmes is putting up 14/8/1.5 this year as a full-time center. Powell's career-best year is 10/5/0.5 and he can't play full-time center as we've seen repeatedly.

Let´s play Dan´s favourite game: Agent power.

Duffy already directed

Vucevic to Chicago to pair him with Lavine. For a moment we ignore that Lavine has already decided he only wants to play for Dallas. Tongue
Richardson to Dallas to pair him with Luka.

Now we have his other client Myles Turner sitting out there.

Always involved in trade rumours, Dallas native, MFFL and arguably one of the few PF/C that you should be able to pair successful with Porzingis or play as a stand-alone C in case of a KP trade.

If it´s not Collins/Markkanen or the unlikely big solution (Lavine/Beal), he will be the Mavs primary (trade) target.

We have a good relationship with the Pacers. I´m sure the player will be up for it. Now the question becomes whether the Mavs can build an over the cap package that is attracive enough for the Pacers? Something around Kleber/Green maybe? Does Richardson have any value? What about a S&T for THJ element?

Much depends on where that "slightly" comes from.  Holmes is basically Powell's equal as an offensive player (a good thing).  The gravity of having them on the floor creates opportunities for shooters.  So, having one of Holmes or Powell on the floor actually helps the offense.  Look no further than O-Rating for each player to see that.

The "better" part comes defensively and as a rebounder...two things we happen to need.  I'm willing to spend big money on anything that adds to winning.  Holmes had a WS of 6.5 this season.  That would have been second to only Luka on the Mav's.  Put his D and rebounding in with the starters and push Powell's rim running to the bench and you've helped this team...not to mention KP and Maxi can share the PF spot which also move Maxi to a more appropriate role.  And, can we look at projected salaries of FA's this summer and quit pretending Maxi and Powell make "big money".

I don't see Turner as being much different than Holmes.  In fact, this last season he wasn't as good as Holmes (but I'm willing to cut some slack based on the disaster that team was this season).  But, with Holmes we still get to keep Maxi and Green or whatever else it costs to get Turner.

With Turner we get to keep $15M in capspace or THJ.
