2020-2021 ROSTER TALK: Archived

Or you could just name a player, you would like to add, just to give me clue?

If Chicago wants Drummond and Cleveland is prioritizing Jarrett Allen, I'd be happy for Dallas to be the 3rd team to somehow get in on WCJ. Either as the starter next to KP or the primary backup over WCS and Powell, I think he's a buy-low candidate who could be coached up into a good fit.

As always, the next question is at what cost?  Of course, all TDL discussions are under a bit of a cloud right now.  Are we making deals to add to a roster that includes KP?  Or doesn’t?

I like WCJr.  As has been stated before, Chicago needs to dump some salary to give LaVine a raise and then extend him (and have major cap room for other priorities).  So, getting rid of the partial guarantees on Sato and Young in exchange for Drummond might be attractive.  I’d propose

Drummond to Chicago
Johnson, Richardson and any Rookie to Cleveland
WCJr., Sato and Young to Dallas

You dump non-guaranteed WCS in favor of Carter Jr.  Sato replaces JRich and Young is a rotation PF.  You give up flexibility in the summer, but not sure who we plan to get with that room anyway.

Man I'd love to get in on OPJ and WCJ if they are getting sold off for cheap.

Hey remember that time we gave Harry Barnes away for nothing and everybody was like damn he's overpaid!

Ya he's like in a bunch of trade rumors and will probably get the Kings some assets. Great job Donnie.

Barnes was a below average player on a below average team playing in a way that made him unattractive to most contenders at the time (I.E. Poor defense, constant mid range shots).

Barnes is largely doing the same in Sac town. Only difference is now he's actually playing like a 3rd option. I'd be shocked if any real contender traded for him.

By the way, I totally agree that the Mavs didn't get the most value from a Barnes trade. They could've easily gotten at least a protected 1st or 2nd rounder from someone for him. But I think what we're all missing is that the Mavs essentially traded all of the starting members from that 2018 Mavs team that had a supposed problem with Luka and did so in less than a week apart.  Remember that freeze out where they refused to give Luka the ball?

I think the Mavs wanted Barnes out of the locker room sooner than later because it was all about Luka and his growth. Hard to fault them there.

I mean, is history repeating itself with KP? If that is the case, what are we doing with Luka to figure out how to make this history not be the future?

I think this is more of a coaching issue rather than a Luka issue.

Only reason why I say that is because Luka rarely makes a bad basketball choice. If he isn't passing to KP, it's not because he's choosing an objectively worse option. It's normally a money kick out to a wide open shooter (who often misses, which is the only merit as to why looking for KP more makes sense).

It's up to the coaches to put KP in those positions where Luka likes to pass to.

And all it cost the Kings were were a few more seasons of never going to the playoffs by featuring a overpaid bad player and letting Bogdanoic walk away because they couldn't pay for another wing.   What a huge score for them.

I hope Blake signs with the Nets (or another eastern conference team, would hate to see him help the Warriors keep us from a top 6 seed) but also because, if Drummond gets bought out, would that make Brooklyn less enticing to him and potentially steer him toward Dallas? Him and Porzingis are reportedly friends if I remember correctly.

Nobody forced them to let Bog walk for nothing. That's basically their version of the Harry Barnes giveaway. They could and should have kept Bog, then traded him later.

That's a good point. I think we do want to root for Blake to go there and Drummond to wind up here with his bud KP. There's still a lot of noise around him getting traded though so we will see what happens with that.

I guess the asking price is high. If they would be satisfied with WCS and a couple of second rounders I would gladly give it a shot Smile

I still have a lot of Bagley stock. I think he can be a good player in the right role. Put it this way, Bagley would be perfect in the Powell role right now. If all it took was WCS and some 2nds I'd make that trade so quick my phone would be smoking.

I'd love him as a reclamation project but I wouldn't give much.

Off the table:  Brunson, DFS, Maxi, FRP, Bey
On the table:  Green, Terry, SRPs

Wasn't it rumored that WCJr was the pick had Dallas stayed put in the draft?

Yes, that’s what I remember. I think they were putting Bamba out there as a misdirect.

Vlade is a part of “everybody”, right? Don’t think he thought so.

Just wait until he gets traded. It's going to give SAC more than Justin Jackson.
