2020-2021 ROSTER TALK: Archived
Watching Wiseman tonight...he is raw.  I am no scout by any means...but his shot selection and control on his shot were bad when he was not dunking.  But...the kid is long and athletic and doesnt come across as soft.   If the kid loves the game and is professional(as in puts in time to work on his game)...he could be really good in a few years.

I did see him dive on the floor to save a ball too.

I would do Wiseman, Wiggins and a 2nd for KP and Iwundu as long as we actually do our homework this time and Wiggins checks out as a solid piece. If he doesn’t then Oubre and others would replace him in the trade which would probably need to make it at least 3 teams involved.

If Wiggins is included, I'm asking for a FRP.

Yes in that he's 19.  Mavs aren't winning the title anytime soon anyway.  Lakers just got Schroeder back and destroyed two teams in back to back games without AD.

I'll take Wiseman over KP over the next decade.  (although I'm not necessarily one of those desperate to trade KP right now.  I really like Wiseman)

This is THE most important thing to put with Luka IMO, then fill the roster with shooters/defenders.

Luka's best partner....

20-21: WCS+Luka... +11.8
19-20: DP+Luka.... +10.4

Oh by the way, KP+Luka is -0.3 this year....

Imagine what it would be like if WCS had two functioning hands.

If the Mavs do in fact get Wiggins and Wiseman for KP and someone else.  I bet you RC would not start either one.

If the trade is Wiggins/Wiseman for KP then I would expect Golden State to take Powell too

I wouldn't want Wiggins' contract unless we unload Powell's

Considering the Magic turned down multiple FRP for Gordon not just 4 months ago, I think he's priced out of what the Mavs are willing to pay for a non all-star piece.

Imagine what pre-injury Powell would have been like if he had more size, could rebound, had a post game and could hit a 3 (in addition to a superior rim running game).  Wiseman looks like he could have the entire package offensively.  Maybe not in the Towns/Embiid sense where they can create for themselves from anywhere.  But, his cuts, post ups, rolls and 3 point shooting and defensive rebounding are already above average at 19.  He looks to have the tools to become a defender, but that hasn't proved itself yet.

I watched Wiseman yesterday (like probably many of you) and I thought he did a fine job defending pick & roll. He's big, long, athletic, mobile, has a big rebound radius.

I think he could do a reasonable WCS impression already... but with all the upside Dan pointed out.

It's going to be tough for him to reach his offensive potential in Golden State. Though he's definitely learning the art of setting picks for shooters. I'd love to see what he could become in Dallas.

I also think it would require that Minney pick. If I am GS the main thing I want is KP. Unloading Wiggins isn't necessarily a huge priority unless they care about the tax bill. I think they'd rather keep the Minney pick and Wiggins rather than shed both. Wiggins is a productive player and still fits with a KP lineup:

Curry, Klay, Wiggins, Draymond, KP. They could always move Wiggins later on with that Minney pick if they need to.

I believe Mavs would really value that cap space along with with Wiseman being a core player to fit alongside Luka. Oubre would be a useful player so I don't think the Mavs would be giving up on a playoff run either way. Damien Lee would be another useful piece I'd want in the deal.

Wiseman would probably start I think right away because his roll is pretty straightforward in Rick's offense. Lineup would be:

Luka, Rich, DFS, Maxi, Wiseman.

There aren't a lot of FA's that excite me other than maybe Harrell to be a 6th man big. Oladipo will probably land on a team this year that he will resign with. Normal Powell is interesting but Dipo is really the only guy with star power. I think you have to hope if you are the Mavs that Wiseman is going to be a star player in this league to make that deal.

I thought Powell was supposed to be that guy for the locker room. Isn’t that one of the excusing reasons for him to get a bigger contract (and the respect of an extension...) than he should have?

Mavs: Wiseman, Markkanen and Wiggins

Bulls: Poole, Terry, Wanamaker plus draft compensation from Warriors

Why they do it? They know Markkanen wants to leave in RFA. 2 young projects and 2 2nd round picks seems fair for the rights to Markkanen.

Warriors: KP, Burke, WCS and Iwundu

Why they do it? KP fits their system. Tax savings would be huge. Plus they get some cheap contracts

Interesting idea as I look through what others are proposing KP's value is on TradeNBA. Wouldja? This seems like it would be the types of players that Kamm was talking about yesterday in a pecking order type of team building strategy. RoCo and Nurkic are not on Luka's timeline, but they are seasoned vets that can start. I think the value is close. Nurkic has also had a rough go of injuries, not familiar with his injuries though and how they might affect his game going forward.

I think we should consider a slight modification to the "Luka" timeline. Instead of looking for young guys with potential that will (maybe) allow you to win a long time, maybe it is time to look for experience and proven ability to shift more to a win-now mode. In the current example, Wiseman is still developing, but a confirmed starter like Vucevic would maybe fit the short term needs better.

Nothing helps success like success. If some of these late 20s to early 30s guys will fill the need, then let's take a look. Once successful, the attraction of being with Luka on a winning team will attract others. Especially if he makes them look good, which I'm betting he will.

He's had some freak injuries the last 2-3 years. One of the most terrible broken legs I've seen personally live that kept him almost out of the entirety of last season. Now this season he has a broken right wrist that also looked serious that is supposed to keep him out 2 months.

Before that it was a bunch of small nagging stuff like lower back soreness, bruises, and a sprained ankle. I wouldn't call Nurkic injury prone. But it is concerning that he's played a total of 20 games the last 2 years.

Also to answer your question, no I wouldn't give KP up in that deal. Replace Covington with CJ McCollum and then I'd be way more interested.

Two questions for the board:

1) Would you take Gallo as a salary dump if it just took Johnson and some future second round picks?  It would limit the mavs flexibility this offseason.    I haven't really liked what I have seen from Gallo in the few times I have seen him.  Has looked stiff, plus he also has had injuries in the past.    I think if the Hawks plan to re-sign Collins that they may look to just dump Gallo.  As they also have some younger players who can fill in as well.   I was kicking around Gallo this offseason as a FA.  I was happy when he went somewhere else though.  Just curious if you would take on that contract by letting Atlanta get off that contract?

2)  It seems that the board likes John Collins.   Just curious if you would make a trade for him if Atlanta asked for Maxi Kleber as the headliner in return?   Collins is the better player, but Maxi has a good contract and fills a role that teams like.
