Has to mean that. How many good teams still have more MLE than Mavs? Probably some bad team will overpay Crowder but there is a chance Crowder would take a 1 yr MLE with Mavs and try to get a better deal next year when more teams have space.

Thunder, Pistons, Mavs: Again, let’s see what the draft pick terms are, but Detroit turning Trevor Ariza into Delon Wright in its three-team deal with OKC and Dallas seems like the Pistons’ best move of the week. Wright was a fish out of water playing off the ball with the Mavs, but he is a deceptively productive player despite his shaky outside shooting, and should give Detroit a good option at the point if teenaged rookie Killian Hayes proves not quite ready.
Depending on the timing of this deal, Detroit also could go back under the cap by $3.5 million, or generate a $3.5 million trade exception. It’s not quite enough to avoid having to stretch Rodney McGruder by my math, but it’s close enough that if the reported numbers for Jerami Grant or Mason Plumlee were inflated or included unlikely incentives, they could get there.
On the Dallas side, flipped Wright and Justin Jackson into James Johnson, in a deal that looks like a salary dump from their end to guarantee max cap room in the 2021 offseason. Dallas had a crowded backcourt with Jalen Brunson returning from injury, Josh Richardson incoming, Trey Burke returning and Josh Green and Tyrell Terry added in the draft, so this deal unwinds a tricky playing time situation as well.
Johnson actually fits a positional need for Dallas, as they were thin on pure 4s, so I suspect the Mavs may keep him. His expiring $16 million deal could also be used a trade chip later in the season.
The Thunder will get, what else — draft picks — and inevitably will either buy out Ariza or turn him into more draft capital. If Ariza is bought out, BORD$ sees his market value as $5.2 million — a good use of the room exception or taxpayer MLE.
Again, we’ll see what picks changed hands before we come down with a strong opinion.

I've tried to think through the flipping thing and it is really hard to figure what we might get. A more expensive expiring deal?
We really don't have any assets left that would bring us a difference maker. Ideally, we could trade for that difference maker and extend our expiring contracts and not worry about free agency in 21. But there's even less chance a star comes here for Johnson/Green/Brunson or some-such than there is a star coming here in free agency.

Miami was offering 1 year contract, probably even more than MLE, and Crowder didn't like it... If you want hi, it is a multi year contract. What we have left of the MLE, is probably not enough.

Forgetting 2021 cap strategies for a while. We still have picks to trade. Hield? A.Gordon? LaVine? Trade with San Antonio? Other things might open till TDL.

Doubt it. I think Millsap might be.
Best available bigs prolly Millsap, Baynes, Ibaka or Gasol.
Not sure if they are interested in Bogi, if he wants to get paid 18 mill. On top of giving up assets.

We are pretty barren on the picks front.

Kris Dunn to Atlanta probably means they aren't doing Bog? Dallas could do THJ for Bog right?

Powell + Green for Bogdanovic makes some sense and Millsap $6M is probably reasonable, too.
So I´d say it´s still alive, but as we have calculated, they can´t take a cap hit bigger than ~$15M on Bogdanovic to sign Giannis outright or they have to trade either DFS or Kleber on top of Burke. It´s not difficult, but you probably do not want to give up Kleber or DFS.
It´s not like Bogdanovic has many options outside Atlanta to sign outright and I´d also be a lot more comfortable at 60/4 than the rumoured 72+/4.

I am worried the Lakers will get Bog somehow since bad teams are always eager to help make them better.

I can't imagine Millsap leaving Denver, now that they lost Grant. They have plenty of room below tax now

Ya I agree. They have his bird rights so they could easily give him a big 1 yr deal.

It's oddly quiet after the speculation to kick of free agency is that he'd sign an offer sheet with Atlanta.
Help me understand what I'm missing. We went after Gallo which says to me they felt a need for more offensive punch created by trading away Curry, we just couldn't come to terms on the money. Granted, Gallo plays a different position and adds more size to the 4/5 spot which will be sorely needed to kick off the season, but he isn't going to bring much on the defensive side of the ball and he's not the best rebounder. The money we were going to give him is probably what Bogi is going to get in free agency. Why wouldn't the Mavs pursue? In my mind:
-That's a decent value contract that probably looks better as he plays with Luka in Carlisle's system (asset collection)
-Secondary Playmaker and can give you the shooting you missed out on with Gallo.
-Is friends with Luka
-Prevent the Lakers from acquiring him.
So it comes down to:
-Mavs don't like him (or the money/years)
-Last nights trade screws up some of the bits and pieces for salary matching
-We don't want to give up THJ/Brunson

They still have some 20+ of cap space, so they are definitely going after him.
