DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."

That´s what happens every single time when people start to hype future free agent classes. Best guys get traded, sign extensions or get injured.

I think the Mavs do one of four things on draft night:

1) Keep #18
2) Trade #18+? for #10
3) Trade #18 for #25+?
4) Something else. Smile

Outside of the Giannis pipe dream, the free agent class was always overhyped unless you want to really overpay for age and/or injury.  LeBron and Kawhi were never leaving LA.

Basically the point of my last few posts: the guys we’ve seen go off the board were all overpays. The guys left teams are balking on or they would be gone already. Prices will come down

Jrue was the best fit so they ante’d up. New Orleans has one of the best GM’s in the league now. They got max they could for Jrue and AD.

Still think there was a bid war behind the scenes. Denver(and possibly other teams) gave what they thought was a decent offer and Bucks just more desperate

The bidding war if there was one may have been Boston offering their picks this year. I think that could be how we got 3 picks plus the pick swaps. It makes sense at least.

You can't say that is just insane value either. Mavs have 18, 31 compared to 14, 26, 30. Everyone here says that's not enough in deals. Is moving up 4 spots and adding 26 all that much better?

Is there a Buddy Hield trade that would make sense?

Sucks that the Rockets are unlikely to make any deals with the Mavs. Tucker and McLemore would really improve the Mavs wing depth.

But no, 2021 is loaded Smile At least we can forget the dream and focus on really possible moves to improve instead of some future dreams.

Apparently for Denver, lol.

Sorry, I know it sucks. Couldn't resist.

I mean .. it is loaded with big names if you don't mind giving Blake Griffin, DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowrey or LaMarcus Aldridge their last big paycheck.

I know it is meh, I was beating that drum for months. I was sarcastic. Outside of Gianis, there is realistically no max player available.

Personally i dont see the sense of trading THJ for him. Same age as THJ, i dont think he is better nor his contract is great.

Tho unless they would take a package of Wright/Powell/pick(s), i dont see any deal that makes really sense. I mean the rumor was that he is interested in DAL; who knows if the MBT is interested.

If it's about the money for a fox extension.. THJ on an expiring deal and likely cheaper to retain then Buddy's current deal makes some sense with whatever else the Mavs have to give up.

I like THJ and all... But is anyone else not slightly worried that last year was a bit of a fluke for him? That maybe that's the best he ever is because that's his peak shooting usage? His role ideally would continue to scale down if we got a true 3rd scoring piece.

If THJ has value... I don't hate the idea of trading him and capturing value out of him regardless of what the deal is.

But are you willing to give anything else up? I am not really, for that contract. I don't think he is the missing piece.

As for competition. It is likely Denver and Philly. Mavs have the advantage of THJ expiring, while Philly would center their deal (likely) around Horford (3 years left) and Denver around G.Harris (2 years). But, they are both more desperate and have picks.

As for Sacramento cap problems. They were mostly gone with Bogdanovic trade. I would think they would prefer draft picks over cap flexibility

Looks like Nugs will Buddy Hield. So what's left for the Mavs are probably OKC scraps from their trades and maybe Dipo if Indy wants him out of town. If they can afford to wait then they wouldn't have to sell him while his stock is so low.

Will Mavs just do smaller value moves? Draft 18, get DG or Oubre for Wright dump and 31. Spend MLE on a guy or two, maybe including Trey Burke who had some breakout success in the playoffs. Is that our offseason?
