DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."

Maybe why it went to a 4 team discussion...

And that makes a deal almost impossible. No multi year deals for 41 mill is virtually impossible. Is it less now tho with the cap coming down?

I'd have to think it's more along the lines of we don't want all these crappy contracts back to make a deal happen.
I take that as we don't to take on Rubio's deal and we don't value Oubre highly ourselves because of the rebuild. Find someone else to take both.

I know KL was saying it could be Rubio based on past connections. That was pre Luka and there is 0 reason to think the Mavs want another PG that isn't a good shooter and isn't a multi positional defender on that type of deal. Especially considering other alternatives on the trade market and free agency market next summer.

The only reason it makes sense for Clips to be involved is Rubio. Rubio is what they want.

I'm betting good money that this trade ends up not including the Mavs. The 10th pick would be the centerpiece of what the Thunder would want from the trade for their rebuild. The Mavs are trying to preserve '21 capspace - no way they take something on without you making it worth their while, which means 10.

Edit: for a second there, I mistook the Pels and the Thunder - probably because they both played in hicksville.

I am almost certain that OKC will NOT get #10 just to get rid of CP3's salary. I will gladly eat crow if I am wrong.

I'm operating that everyone is opting in until we hear they aren't.
I don't think THJ is the type of guy to opt out and risk taking less money so he doesn't have to get traded somewhere. He's opting out if he knows he's got a better deal. Or he isn't.

For one he may not ever play in OKC. I would suspect OKC then tries to flip THJ in a separate deal for assets. He also doesn't fit their long term plans. But he gets a deal done and keeps them from taking on long term salary.

The flip side is of course they could just take a guys like Wright and Powell back. But if the no salary coming back report is true (and it does make sense they wouldn't want to) they have very little options.

I think the not just taking Oubre themselves route is because they don't value Oubre and want someone else that does to pay that value for him. PHX would likely say this is a first round pick equivalent and OKC says we aren't paying him so he's worthless to us.

I think Rubio coming back to them is a nonstarter and thus the need for other teams. Again that's if all this is true. Big if.

Good let them all waste all the energy and time while waiting for Harden decision. Less competition for us. We can trade for Richardson in the end, after they strike out Smile

Why are so many teams determined to make themselves worse???

Re: the Suns in that list - Beard and CP3 didn't work; Beard and Russ didn't work - how about Russ and CP3?

It's actually kinda fun to simultaneously watch Houston implode while Phoenix (potentially) takes its place at the big boy table. Now if we could just ship some of the Western talent out of the conference, that would be great.

Idk about anyone else but I'm loving seeing Westbrook's warts exposed for all to see.

Cuban was right all along. Not a superstar!

Josh Green is a top 5 Mavs player...

I just can't imagine what would be a big move for the Spurs? Hayward? Unless I'm thinking and the wrong direction and they are blowing it up chasing draft assets.

Those two not being part of front office processes = at least minimal acceptable competence from the Houston FO.

With the typical caveat that Perkins is usually full of it, the sudden wave of negative Harden/Westbrook news feels a lot like the propaganda ahead of the KP deal. Something is up.

Been trying to catch up on this thread all day!

Don't know why Clippers or Mavs would want Rubio, especially Mavs. I don't see the fit with Rubio on the court and I don't see how salaries would make sense unless both Powell and Wright are unloaded in the deal.

Some kind of PatBev for Powell might make sense in terms of fit. Powell would replace Harrell and Mavs would have more use for PatBev than the Clips. Both would be money dumps in either direction. PatBev would be expiring in 2021, so Mavs could probably unload him one way or another if they needed to for that big fish.

PatBev is nuts but I think Rick would put him to good use and Barkley has always said you need 1 crazy guy to win a championship.

Catching up, I like the early speculation better than the later.

Are people too low on Oubre? How come ppl don't like him? He seems to fit the profile of what the Mavs need. I don't think I'd want to give up 18 but 31/Wright/Jackson would be a good deal imo.

Probably.  I was pretty high on Oubre before he got traded to the Suns but have cooled since.  I'd do your 31/Wright/Jackson without hesitation.

Like if OKC just wants to pile up picks I think 31 is pretty fair value. They are also eating Wright's money but he's still a useful player and the money isn't terrible.
