DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know."
I've got my fingers crossed on the player option deadline coming before the draft. Being able to combine THJ with a pick could open up some new possibilities.

I could see THJ + 31 being a competitive offer for Oladipo for example. If I'm Indiana I take that over Kuzma + 28 from the Lakers.

They didn't drop Warren because they needed cash. They dropped him because they wanted cap space for their signings.

Hope Dan caught that about the transaction window, including opt-ins and opt-outs etc., will be before the draft. It would be huge for the Mavs if they could trade THJ on draft day.

So that was confirmed then, the opt-in is before the draft?

Not confirmed.  This comes from a Woj tweet

"Talks on opening the NBA’s transaction window — trades, contract opt-ins and outs, etc. — are progressing toward firming a date two or three days prior to the November 18 draft, sources tell ESPN".

That's a pretty wide net.  You could have trades and the earliest opt-in/opt-out dates starting the 15th and 16th and still have the final deadline for THJ be the 19th.  But, the wording also leaves open the possibility of all options being due at the same time as trades are allowed.  Time will tell.

The below is from Bobby Marks...It appears the dates for individual options (team and player) will be set individually.  So, those that were due pre-draft will still be pre-draft and those that were on the standard date (WCS and THJ) will continue to be post-draft.

What else needs to be finalized?

The heavy lifting of agreeing on a start date for the season, escrow rules and the salary cap is done. After the Nov. 18 draft, free-agent negotiations can start on Nov. 20 (at 6 p.m. ET) and signings will begin on Nov. 22.

Now the attention shifts to amending the dates for the 43 players who have team or player options (including Anthony Davis and Gordon Hayward), non-guaranteed contracts that have a trigger date, the deadline to submit a qualifying offer and trade exceptions that are due to expire.

The Warriors' $17.2 million trade exception that originally had a July 7 expiration date probably will now expire on Nov. 27. Besides the contractual matters, the missing dates for the below 2020-21 basketball calendar will also need to be finalized.

The Paul/Suns thing, from what I’m told, is very real. Talks have advanced past preliminary stages, and there is already discussion of this expanding to a four-team deal involving the Clippers and Mavericks. The names I’m hearing are Kelly Oubre, Ricky Rubio, Landry Shamet, and Dorian Finney-Smith, plus a few others, with the 10th and 18th picks changing hands.

If this is true, it's got to be Oubre to Dallas and Rubio to LAC with Shamet going to OKC...nothing else makes sense. But, I do NOT want to give up DFS AND #18 for Oubre, so I hope there's more to it than that.

Clippers wanted a PG bad, I'm assuming they're getting Rubio while sending Shamet/fillers to OKC. We're either getting Oubre or trading up for #10 in this case.

In a trade where the biggest piece is Chris Paul? I doubt it, tbh.

You think DFS is worth moving up 8 spots? I don't.

I think the best you can hope for is that it's Wright/DFS/18 for Oubre AND Rubio. I might do that.

I might rather have DFS than Oubre. If I'm giving up the Mavs' best wing defender and his ludicrously valuable contract, I need 10 or no deal. Period.

Actually, I don't think it's possible to get both players, cap wise (unless Powell is involved, which I doubt)...so, without Dallas getting #10, which I REALLY doubt for that package, at least, I'd say the most likely thing is Rubio OR Oubre. Not both.

This is crazy. False, I hope.

Let's hope it's Wright/Jackson/#18 for Oubre. I could get behind that. DFS is off the table unless we're getting #10 AND Vassell is there.

I‘m usually on the pessimistic side of things when it comes to our players‘ evaluations. But I think DFS & #18 for #10 might be pretty fair for all sides. No?

DFS can start and is under control for two more years at roughly half of the MLE. I think he has that kind of value on the trade market.

Oubre is pretty expensive for a player with his production. Not really a guy that screams MBT to me. Rubio is someone they have reportedly liked for a few years. But meh. He’s not worth #18 and DFS if you ask me.

I tend to believe that it’s about the pick.

Oh, sure! 10 would be great!

I just don't see how you get from 18 to 10 using only DFS! Maybe there's more to the deal than what's in that paragraph, but it seems to me like both picks would end up at OKC, along with Shamet, with the established players going elsewhere.
