Trade& Free Agency 2026/2027
Hornets could offer Josh Green instead of Grant Williams. Wouldn't change a thing for me because I expect bigger changes but as of now the Mavs really don't need another PF/undersized big.

Part of what made Williams such a liability IMO was that the player on the court you could get a positive defensive matchup for Williams had to be covered by Luka. And it made Williams cover one of 2 options: a Larger forward (Luka covered the 3/4) OR a faster guard. Both situations routinely exposed Williams.

It's not like he has done much since he left.  I would have no interest in him on this roster.  I have probably been a bigger advocate of trading Kyrie than anyone, but I have little interest in that trade.

I wouldn't do the trade either, but if you're trading Kyrie, you're not going to be good next season. Getting 2 FRP's and expiring contracts before he's stepped back on the court, one of them your own FRP next year (when you'll be bad again), isn't "nothing".

It's not nothing, but as much as I like this draft a very late first is not crazy value, next years draft is not supposed to be good, and I am not excited about another season where we are debating about tanking.

Stole my line.  A big no thank you from me.  This team needs to get more likeable, not less.

Salary Match Kyrie Trade:

ORL: Jalen Suggs

MIL: (2 of) Turner, Kuzma, Portis OR AJ Green+Turner/Kuzma

MIN: Gobert or Randle

DET: (2 of) Robinson, LeVert, Stewart + Holland

HOU: (3 of) Adams, DFS, Smith Jr, Sheppard

These are the simplest means of salary matching for potential Kyrie teams this summer. Whole lotta meh! So, you’re counting on the draft pick(s) to HIT!

Miami is now viewed as the overwhelming favorite to land Giannis

ESPN’s Bobby Marks trade idea:

Miami receives:
Giannis Antetokounmpo

Milwaukee receives:
Tyler Herro
Kel’el Ware
Nikola Jovic
2026 first-round pick
2031 first-round pick
2033 first-round pick
swap rights in 2029

Obviously depends on the draft compensation but Suggs is by far my favorite player on this list. Only 24 years old. One of the best perimeter defenders in the league. Just don't ask him to do too much on offense. Derrick White/Marcus Smart role would be perfect for him. Would be a great fit next to any of the potential guard options at #9.
Magic don't have a first round pick this year. But could offer future 2nds or a protected first.

“Jalen Suggs is expected to become a prime trade candidate this offseason with the Magic facing salary cap concerns.

Suggs is set to earn $32.4M next season as the 24-year-old guard enters the second year of a five-year, $150.5M contract extension.”

That contract is brutal!!

Talked with one of the most prominent people close to Kyrie Irving that I have access to, and have been told Irving remains happy with the organization and wants to stay despite the changes, including the departure of coach Jason Kidd and adjustments within the front office.

He probably wouldn't be available if it wasn't for his contract. But the contract isn't as bad as it looks. Declining. Team option in the last year.

It is declining, but where do you see a team option?

I like the player, but I don't like that contract.  Would need legit draft assets coming back.

Just looked it up. Conflicting information. Spotrac doesn't mention a team option. Bball ref does. Inclined to trust Spotrac when it comes to stuff like this. So probably fully guaranteed.

Here's a recent article from a fan? Not a report or anything, but the trade concept isn't a terrible one.

MIN: Kyrie
CHA: Gobert
DAL: M. Bridges, G. Williams, Pick #28 (MIN), '27 FRP (DAL)

I'd want Ayo Dosunmu in a SnT, not that it's the Wolves decision to make there, with Ayo being a UFA...

I proposed almost this identical trade a couple of days ago (mine had Green instead of Bridges and both Hornets' 2026 1sts instead of one this year and the Mavs' next year. I was told Kyrie wouldn't be traded and that I was unrealistic. Oh, what two days difference makes. Lol!

Well Kyrie is even more unrealistic today than yesterday.

105.3 The Fan was kicking around the idea of OKC's #12 and #17 for #9.  I don't think I'd do that unless they included an additional future pick as I'm not keen on moving out of the top 10 nor helping OKC get better.

Actually when most folks propose this trade they include Mavs giving up 30.  I would prefer to stay at 9 as well.

I mean you wouldn’t do that trade now anyways, but could have a conditional agreement to move fast on draft night if the chips align in a certain way for both teams, right?

If we were to have a tier of players we like the same and are sure that one of them is available at 12 and if we are also sure a player we like much more than this tier won’t drop to 9 (or see live that it won’t happen after the first few draft picks), then this trade makes a lot of sense.

It would be the typical trade-back pattern happening a lot of times in every NFL draft and you have to trust your draft board and act according to it. I wouldn’t have done that before, knowing that Presti would always win - now with Ujiri and Smith I‘m optimistic it could be a win-win because of very different needs of both teams.
