Luka Dealt to Lakers: Nico Harrison is a Basketball Terrorist
(03-12-2025, 02:46 PM)Reunion Mav Wrote: I totally agree with this premise. I’m not sure which way this is going to go in the next few years. I have not given up watching my Mavs and our guys all the way to player number 17 are making the games worthwhile just by playing so hard. Some are taking advantage of their opportunities.

Our losses which are certainly huge have hurt me too. It seems the karma cost of last year’s great playoff run followed by sickness and injury was unbelievable high. But we still have many talented and seemingly motivated players and I don’t rule out future success for us. I’m watching the Lakers the most I ever have in 55 years or more because they are interesting. I do root for Luka but not the Lakers. I could never do that.
Maybe I’m just reasonably good at not losing hope.
I do secretly hope that Karma gives us a great draft pick or a great longer term trade pickup. I’m kind of for the trade because we have all learned lottery luck is not allowed for us.

Having a good playoff run is not the kind of thing that generally invokes karma (and they had plenty of injuries last season as well).  Trading your 25 year old superstar in the middle of the night and then shitting all over him afterwords to justify it is the kind of thing that invokes karma.  I am rooting for them to land a great draft pick, but I wouldn't count on karma for that.  I don't think the current FO/Ownership deserves it (although the organization certainly does).

Hold my beer.  As someone who is very proud of his Texas roots, Nico and the Adelsons may have broken my bond to DFW sports.  Granted most of the damage was done by Jerry and to a lesser extent, Mark and Donnie (at least we could look back at 2011 while in the nearly decade of darkness that followed).  I'll probably get over it at some point, but right now I wish the franchise the worst.  Don't confuse that animosity towards the fans or players, even if the former effects the latter.  I can't help but hope for the organization to continue the streak of never improving their draft position through the lottery and never sniffing the playoffs until the Mavs are under new ownership/management.

He was warned on 9 different occasions to stop being crass and to chill out. He was also sent a nice private DM where he was asked to add to conversations, not steer every single one back to how the Mavs are the worst organization on Earth, the Mavs are done, and he is 100% right.

For example, I have probably one of the bleakest outlooks of the franchise of anyone on the board right now. The Luka trade has turned my fandom into anger. It hurts me to watch games and to see Luka in a Laker jersey. I probably agreed with almost everything he said. AND YET! I do not have to repeat myself every single time I make a post to tell people the end is nigh and there's no point. And is one even a Mavs fan at that point? At some point, beating that dead horse gets so much that it actually takes away from everyone else trying to talk about the Mavs and turns this into a negative echo chamber where we are just repeating to ourselves how bad the Mavs are.

I don't like that. No one likes that. He was asked to stop doing that so many times over the last 3 weeks and he never listened. So we banned him.

For anyone else, you will not be banned for posting negative stuff. Don't get me wrong. Dissent is okay and I enjoy reading differing opinions. This situation was an extreme example of negativity, and even then it took 3 weeks, almost 10 warnings, AND a private DM before he was banned.

Please let me know if I've explained why he was banned properly and if you have any concerns you are always free to reply here or in my DM.

Is his ban permanent?

The first one is always two days. That's this one for him.

Second is a week.

Then, things get serious. I've been here for a few years now, and we've never had to permaban anyone, so far (that I can remember). Maybe a couple right before I got here, if memory recalls. For the most part, folks are cool around here.

Just saw a tweet:

Luka’s first game in Dallas will also be the 6yr anniversary of Dirk‘s last game in Dallas. It’s those little things that remind you every day how absurdly awful this trade was on every level imaginable. Going from Dirk to Luka was a once in a lifetime basketball fairytale.

Only to throw it all into the trash…

Not sure if it was already posted, but Ceedee Lamb spoke on the trade and stated that it basically destroyed the city of Dallas:

“I ain’t gonna lie, they killed the city with that one.”

“I wasn’t even expecting that,” he said. “I don’t even know what time it happened, but I remember where I was when I saw it and I thought it was fake, because I saw it on a tweet.”

So he says the trade was about the future, but Nico said it was win now?

It's really hard to regain fan trust if the messaging isn't even consistent, not to mention that the team doesn't really seem more likely to win more now or in the future.

What Dumont said was nonsense. The opposite of what he said is true.

In case you're wondering, that Dumont interview was Feb 13, a month ago. Yahoo wrote this article as if this is what is being said in a new interview now, which is well over a month after the trade, but that's not the case. Not anything new, not breaking news.

Figured I would pop back in to say hi. I will never try to pressure anyone to join me in what I've done. But, Luka made a fool of Nico tonight. The only reason the Lakers lost was missing 3 starters to injury. A 45 point night looked great on him. If he weren't playing with the bench as starters he would have had a triple double. Luka is fine. I don't know what Nico was smoking but he has no business being a GM.

Miss all of you guys and the chats and I feel terrible for you guys. Nico trashed a team ready to win.
Find me at Lakersball.com. I'm done with the Nico and the Mavs.

Ironic that one of the few who still watches Mavs games (at least some quarters) is banned and those who watch the Lakers, comment on their possible future moves and root for them are free to write... maybe I'm wrong and this is Lakersforum.com  Huh Huh Huh

No disrispect here to the people and families affected by this... But this trade will be rememberedas 9-11. everyone will remember what we were doing and where we were when this happened.

Also wondering why si . com Mavericks are just posting the same old news and reports that repeates the same thing all the time...

He looked great last night. He generates so many open, good looks for teammates. Seeing his low assist total shows you how bad they were making shots last night.

He still relies on power rather than quickness going to the rim. That is something to monitor to see if that can be a part of his game again.

This is the Luka thread. Where you are free to comment about Luka, his time with the Lakers, and the trade.

You seem to misunderstand that notion. Because you talk about the trade every single time, in every single thread.

Your 2 day ban wasn’t enough of a wake up call man? Like I just don’t get it. are you a fan of the Mavs or aren’t you? Take a breath. I’ve been honestly too nice up until this point.

Looks like Luka will be out for at least one game. Lakers will be like the Mav's in playing 100% second tier against the Nuggets. DFS doubtful too.

Dumont seemed perfectly willing to spend whatever it takes, even for three max players, I guess to atone. I just want a team with some organic components, not just 100% mercenaries. This current team is not only uninteresting, it’s a stranger to me. Hopefully the team has some lottery luck and we can get a player to rally around in the building.

They had that player and traded him. The Mavs may never get that lucky again.

I wish Nico would quit before the lottery so the Mavs would be more deserving of the recompense.
