Nico sold the Mavs present and future for his own business, he is done as NBA GM but he doesn't care.
He laughed at us at the press conference.
He worked for his personal future... All of that trampling an entire fan base.
We will never forget. It's impossible to do because it's not a basketball trade, it's not basketball stuffs.

We complain about getting” old” stars but Kidd was just that. Lead to the teams only championship. We get so infatuated with “windows” of contention and potential that we may forget that the goal is to WIN the ship. A window is useless if it comes and goes without a ring. I’m not justifying the Luka trade, it was inexcusable, but IF the Mavs win a championship with Nico’s new vision of the team then it will ultimately be judged as a success. Hanging banners changes hearts.

Luka Doncic provides more chances to win a title than the entire current mavs roster... Past, present and future.

I agree. Nico doesn’t. We’ll see who’s right.

Please don't forget that it wasn't just the trade, but the very small return for Luka that demonstrated Nico's incompetence. GMing is about managing assets, including getting an adequate return in trades.

Absolutely. Nico will be judged on the entirety of the trade based on results, just like any GM is. If it fails, he’s let go. If he builds a team that wins the championship, he will have been proven right.
I’m just as upset about the trade as most of you. My point was that his job is to win a championship. I don’t know about you, but I also watch the Mavs in the playoffs with the hope that they win it all…
I think they had the team around Luka to do it. Then the Cavs happened. I don’t think the Mavs beat them with a healthy Luka. We already know they weren’t close to the Celtics. This new version of the Mavs may or may not be competitive either. I hope we get the chance to see.

AD has to be a 1st team all nba level player for at least 5 years for us to have even a modicum of justification, AND Luka needs to be done in 3-4 years.
Even then it’s baffling.

This trade is already a failure, you can't trade Luka Doncic to your buddy for that weak package.
The Cavs? We don't even know if they will play Finals... Who cares about the Cavs.
Mavs were a great PO teams with a juggernaut player, every team were scared to face Doncic... They will laugh at Anthony "street clothes" Davis.
If he will ever play again a PO game of course.

It will come out that other teams would’ve thrown the goods at us for a chance to land Luka. The trade will not age well. If Luka wins 3 rings in LA, which is far from unrealistic, then Nico will have egg on his face EVEN IF the Mavs somehow find a way to win one.
Pessimism doesn’t make you smart, just pessimistic.

I think you may be right, and the Christie hate in this forum really disappoints me.
Christie is REALLY good. On both ends of the floor. And he's still very young with lots of room to grow.
The fact that he's not Luka, pffft since when is that the standard? Early thinking that "he looks like he might be an All Star one day" is an incredible level of play by a youngster.
FWIW I so enjoy Team Ball wayyyyyyy better than an offense that is tied every possession to the whims and results of one player.

I have not seen any Christe hate. In fact, its been the opposite. Saying that Christie is not going to become Luka is not Christie hate, its Luka trade hate when looking at it from a long term perspective. If anything the overwhelming response has been Christie love. He is clearly a good player, but I am worried folks are getting a little carried away based on a small sample of games. I have no idea how good he is going to be. I liked Brunson and thought we should have extended him at the time, but I had absolutely no clue he was going to be nearly this good. What I do love is that contract. We are going to have 2+ seasons to find out just how good this kid is before we have to make a decision on him.

The goal is to win championships, but its not just to win them today, its to win them tomorrow as well. Its a balance. A move to slightly increase your chances in the near term (which I don't think is happening here) but tanking a legit chance for the next several years is not a good trade off.
Also, winning a championship is not a guarantee of all things forgiven. If Nico sends out every young player we care about for KD and the team somehow stays healthy enough at the right time to actually win a championship, I would consider it a very hollow victory. Especially if the team spends then next serval years being terrible with no hope on the horizon while Luka wins one with a team that had less talent, less fit with Luka and less assets than the Mavericks at the time of the trade.

Max Christie is a project. No more.
His ceiling is solid starter.

Luka, in his game against Mavs, has in his power the ability to get everyone resposible fired. He might score 100. If not in that game, then certainly in the playoffs.

That's a lot of assumptive "if's" that negative things are sure to happen, while positive things would have been sure to happen on the road not taken.
Yes we can and should stop and declare Nico a dolt for the negotiating itself, because it was awful work.
But in particular let's see how Luka does in winning a title. His road ahead to claiming rings has MANY huge question marks, maybe even more than the Mavs.

Wherever Luka plays, that team will play playoffs, finals, contend. Wheter it was in europe, or in dallas, he made the team go far. Even the underdog Slovenia. Number of titles eventually depends on the entire team. I would say that Boston team was one of the historically great ones.
There is no doubt that Lakers will contend now each single season. That was not the case before the Luka trade.

What Nico did was malpractice at best. If he would have managed to get Reeves and and another FRP, I still would not have been OK with the trade. And I agree with you, the Mavs is not winning any rings with two former Lebron Robins and no Batman.
But there is no need hating on Christie.
