The two most valuable franchises in the league got both of the Mavericks' best players so that's comforting.

We should have demanded Shake Milton from the Lakers.

I had tears when Dirk won a title. This is as close to the opposite. Even winning a title with AD won’t change it unless you tell me AD can stay healthy the next three years and we win a couple more. Even then the feeling won’t be the same as having seen Dirk win one here or Luka winning one. There is something different when it is a homegrown piece from the start. We have good guys on this team and Inwould be happy for them if they won a title. Winning one with Luka would have been different. Even if we didn’t win one, watching him play for my fav team was a bragging right and a privilege.
Now all that is gone.

This is insane. Nico is nuts. Did he make this trade with the approval of the owners? Or did he act on his own?
Sounds like Nico only spoke to the Lakers because he (or Kyrie) wanted AD? There are other franchises who might have given the Mavs an absolute haul for Luka... such as the Jazz, Spurs, Rockets or Thunder.
This move seems to have come from Nico wanting more defense to win now. Kyrie and AD being friends also probably has something to do with it.
Or is this part of something deeper? Such as, the league asked the Mavs to make this trade for viewership reasons? The viewership numbers have not been good this season. This move saves the Lakers from the hole that Lebron and Klutch have dug them into, and the NBA feels like they need the Lakers to be good (even though it shouldn't matter because of other franchises)... and in return for trading Luka to the Lakers, the league has agreed to okay a move for this franchise to Vegas? Or to give them something else to make up for it? I'm digging deep into my conspiracy theory bag there, but who really knows?
Anyway, I will hope that the Mavericks win the ring this year. This trade sukks for Mavs fans and I think y'all are cool, so you deserve something good from this trade.

Pretty much. Kyrie, AD and Klay aging out and or injured. Gafford likely gone. Lively, Omax and Max Christie as our young talent. PJ would be entering his prime. But no superstar on the horizon. That Lakers 2029 is no guarantee of anything.

ONE First. One FIRST. This is fake right? They moved April fools day to February, right? One first? One first. One first. And not even a young player in return. No a 30 year old injury prone mess. Okay I´m as done with this franchise. These fucktards could have called the Kings and would have gotten Fox, Monk and three Kings 1st round picks.
Turns out Nico is just a dumbass that got lucky once or twice in a trade, or rather Lindsay did all the work. No way does a GM that did the draft night trades do this garbage.
Now we have owners that are so dumb they approved this and apparently don´t care about winning. Might be a bunch of Sterlings trying to save money.
So in the end Kyrie does destroy the Mavs afterall, if he pushed for AD. This time he killed them silently.
I´m too old, and I´m not that old, to invest much time in this. There is no way to get better, cause Kidd, Nico and the owners that approved all this will still be in charge.
CU guys.

Excellent point. They literally destroyed the team, so nothing to cheer for. Everybody hates them now and fans will be happy to see them leave Dallas. That must be the play here.

There is no window. Are you all really telling me that you will be joyous and thrilled watching Kyrie and AD get a ring or two here? It’ll not be the same as having the chance to watch Luka do it here. Teams are not just about putting another banner. We already have one. We didn’t need one like Toronto did.
Every fan base was jealous that we had an insanely productive talent like Luka despite some of his warts. That was your guy. A generational talent. You just gave him up for a soon to be 32 year old who while talented, is not the same talent as a 26 year old Luka. Plus you could have got so much more if you really wanted to rebuild in a different direction. Instead the Mavs focused on some pointless short term ring that won’t excite many even if it happens.

From what Shams said, Dallas initiated the deal, and they had their sights set on AD. It's not like the Lakers called them. It's more to it I'm sure, stay tuned.

Wait we they don´t have a 1st from 2027 to 2030 and will instead convert a top 5 lottery pick to Charlotte, OKC, Houston and San Antonio instead. This will be the worst team in the league by 2027 and it won´t have a pick or young players to show for it.
To be totally honest, even with the Lakers involved, I believe David Stern would have refused to sign off on this deal. Can the other owners veto this based on it´s insane stupidity. He could have gotten Butler, Herro, Jovic and Jacquez from Riley, the whole Bulls roster.
I feel totally numb. This is without the shadow of a doubt the single worst trade in NBA history. There is nothing that comes even close. Mikael Bridges got trade for five 1sts.

I am saying even the best case scenario doesnt move the needle for me. I am so bummed right now. I am in my mid 50s and this easily ranks as the worst trade I have seen in my life across all sports given that Luka never even forced their hand. What a sht show.
