Could be. He's a big wing with the prototype NBA body. Has more of a defensive mindset than offensive.

He was a guy who popped up here a few years ago as a MLE target. I believe he had an unusually high corner 3 percentage and was a solid defender.
Since then his game has gone in the toilet, but I am worried about our wing depth. So any insurance would be helpful.

Looks like the Mavs are prioritizing experience over upside, which makes sense when you're trying to bring in somebody that might need to get some minutes in the playoffs, even if those minutes are limited.

I doubt Burks is getting bought out, so this guys is at top of my list.

I kind of hate this signing.
Holiday was one of the worst players on ATL, and the general consensus from Hawks reddit was that they were ecstatic to finally be rid of him. Further, they kept saying that his stats were incredibly empty despite being somewhat ok.
I'd much rather go after Stanley Johnson. I'm a bit disappointed we're not prioritizing him.

I agree Johnson would be a terrific pickup for us. guy plays decent D and can hit some shots from downtown once in a while, and his size be good for the position he plays. at least would be a significant upgrade over pinson imho.

Yeah I think I'd rather have Stanley Johnson than Holiday. The defensive versatility outweighs Holiday possibly being a better shooter (Holiday only 30% from corner threes this season is not too appealing)

Count me in for Johnson, if only we can get Nico's attention on this...

Dedmon off the board. Playoff contenders getting their guys while the Mavs are still on the outside looking in. The Lakers (cough, not a contender, or even a pretender) will likely swoop in for Johnson if the Mavs aren't savvy on him.

So... What can a team offer to incentivize a bought-out player?
1. Additional money beyond the vet minimum. Rarely done.
2. A promise of immediate playing time, particularly if it will enhance his likelihood of getting another contract.
3. A good shot at a championship ring.
4. Teammates that he knows and loves.
5. Ownership / Management that has a reputation for telling the truth and following through with commitments. This is closely related to item #2 - if a team promises playing time, but doesn't deliver, word spreads.

At this very moment someone is explaining contract buyouts to a shoe salesman.

Dumb. He is about to turn 34 and looks washed. I'm not sure what we are getting from his "vetness" given that he has been on shitty teams most of his career. Stanley would have made so much more sense, but I am guessing that is off the table now (although it doesn't have to be).

We are going to get a Holiday!!!
Can we look at Ibaka to put a Serge in our big rotation?

From Hollinger's buyout market article:
Tier IV: Some other possibilities
19. Justin Holiday, SF, Houston: A steady 3-and-D wing in years past, Holiday seemed to lose some athletic juice over the past two seasons — as most easily seen in his shocking 3.0 percent rebound rate this season. He fell out of Atlanta’s rotation like a rock dropped from a plane, playing a grand total of 10 minutes since New Year’s Day. However, he can still shoot it (36.4 percent career from 3), never gets hurt and is a plus locker room guy, so perhaps a contender needing a fifth wing will take a look.

I honestly couldn't tell you which one of these buyouts have anything left or would fill a role. I think we are looking for a 3 month rental for a guy if Josh got in foul trouble in a playoff game could come in and play 10 minutes or so and be ready when his name is called. Can Holiday do that? His last two years have been concerning but I wouldn't make much out of it.
I actually thought Johnson was out of the league. Last year, I remember the Raptors fans were ready to move because he couldn't shoot. It looks like he played ok in San Antonio.
I would have preferred Ross or Danny Green, but I have no idea what Green has left either.

One more for the less talented brother of a great player collection.
