You make a good point in that what holiday thinks is part of the equation. He has earned that, for sure. However, all indications are that this is Cronin making a push to be a playoff team. I really don’t think they acquired him to him, but I guess we will see.

I am absolutely convinced that Jrue is not going to stay in Portland. He does not fit their timeline at all. He is going to get flipped to a contender (us) for sure!

I want to love the idea of Jrue to DAL, but the timeline/contract is scary.

I do love the idea of using leftover pieces (like Martin, Hardy, Powell) as the basis for a trade match.

But his 32M salary is really hard to make work with the trade match (a 4-for-1) and the total payroll (because of the need to refill the roster after a 4-for-1) and it might cause salary demand issues down the roster when it comes time for new deals (Jrue's would be a very big number compared to players like Klay, PJ, Gaff, but I'm not convinced he would be doing way more heavy lifting than them). His ongoing salary in the 30s would also cause issues in future years, making the Mavs really top heavy and hard to maintain.

So I don't think he's the answer.

The Portland Trail Blazers trade with the Boston Celtics has been reduced to a straight player swap without the previously reported two second-round picks going to the Celtics, a league source has told The Oregonian/OregonLive.

According to the source, a recent review of Holiday’s medicals revealed nothing substantial enough to warrant the trade being negated. However, there was enough there to lead the Blazers to slightly alter the terms of the deal.

Holiday, the source said, is considered to be healthy and will be working out this summer in preparation for the start of training camp near the end of September.

I really like a lot of Portland's young talent. I also really like and respect Jrue's game. I just can't get away from the thought that in time Portland is going to really regret this trade.

I mean...if they were a team with any chance to win I'd push back, because I think Holiday has something left. Not enough to justify that contract, but possibly enough to be what a good team needs to the point where you can work around it for a while. But, in Portland?? I think there's almost no chance they don't regret the trade.
