TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR |Simons to BOS - KillerLeft - 06-23-2025 Welp, that's one Mavs target gone. https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1937354016171917821 RE: TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR, Simons + two 2nds to BOS - KillerLeft - 06-23-2025 https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1937356139374518672 RE: TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR, Simons + two 2nds to BOS - KillerLeft - 06-23-2025 You know, for as much grief as we give Harrison around here, I think Joe Cronin might be the most delusional dude in the business. He's actually trying to compete, isn't he? Who's gonna tell him? RE: TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR, Simons + two 2nds to BOS - KillerLeft - 06-23-2025 Simons is extension eligible, but I wonder if he'll sign for cheaply enough for BOS to get what they need out of this. It's possible they traded for him just to let him expire. https://x.com/BobbyMarks42/status/1937355269396193622 RE: TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR, Simons + two 2nds to BOS - KillerLeft - 06-23-2025 https://x.com/JakeLFischer/status/1937358079307202648 RE: TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR, Simons + two 2nds to BOS - DanSchwartzgan - 06-23-2025 Portland gave up seconds and Simons. Who was it that thought it crazy when I posted that Jrue might be moved without Boston having to give up compensation? RE: TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR, Simons + two 2nds to BOS - KillerLeft - 06-23-2025 I just don't understand the "why" from Portland's POV. Clearly, they're making a push to make the playoffs. But is that realistic with Grant as their best player? Holiday and Advija supporting...what else? I don't get it. Kicking the tires on Scoot since he is younger and it's hard for he and Simons to share the floor together since they are both play the same position and are pretty terrible at defense. Youth with upside over the known quantity. Youth with upside over the known quantity. Wow, I totally forgot about Henderson. Buuuut, I don't get the vibe that they're acquiring Holiday to flip him, sooooo this is kind of going away from youth, nay? Holiday is coming to take Henderson's job, not Simons', so this is kind of admitting Henderson is a bust, as I read things. Maybe that's the wrong assumption, however. Simons is better then Henderson, but I don't think that Portland had any interest in giving Simons another contract. While I think Henderson will end up a bust, they'll probably give that at least one more season before making that evaluation and having a veteran beside him might help his progress. Keeping Jrue a year might make him easier to flip as he'll have less years remaining on that contract. I don't think he's fallen off a cliff, but his contract length and number is probably too daunting for most teams. I don't think it was wise for Portland to give up picks in the trade even if they are only second rounders. They should be looking to OKC's rebuild and gathering assets, not sending them out. I really don't understand Portland and what they are trying to do. I don't think this is on Cronin, he can't be that delusional. I think owners want them to be at least a little bit competitive. Don't want to hear about tank. Sort of like Toronto. Some thought that Mavs would get 1 or 2 picks to take JRue for some average players and trash contracts, but reality proved to be very different. Great move for Boston. They have huge flexibility going forward now. If Simons works, great. If not, it shouldn't be difficult to flip his expiring salary at TDL for a better player as they still have majority of their picks going forward. Or just let him expire and walk in the summer if they prefer. RE: TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR, Simons + two 2nds to BOS - Chicagojk - 06-24-2025 I really like this for Boston, but I may be biased as I tend to give Stevens the benefit of the doubt. We will see if Simons can adapt his game to play the Boston style of play and if he resigns there. I am not sure if KP can be healthy and there plans for him, but if healthy I would priortize him over Jrue. He is such a wild card and almost a cheat code when healthy. I will be interesting to see if they agree. Moving forward when Tatum returns, he may be better at PF when he returns. If so, that can be a really good team on paper. If they keep KP, they will need another tandem center. Maybe that is Horford but time needs to run out for him sometime, right? I give Boston a big win on this trade. Jrue is still a good player. I am surprised he returned what he did though. I understand the why for Portland, I just don't agree with it. They are in a tough spot. They have some real potential, but seem behind better teams in the west. Scoot has shown flashes but so far not top 2 pick worthy. Deni was awesome last year. Clingan has Kessler qualities and Sharpe should be a star. Camara has turned into a great defender and Thybule is still around. Jrue can help them, but not sure that was the right move at this time. Then you have Ayton, Robert Williams and Jerami Grant just sort of looking around counting their paychecks. Sort of weird mix. I was also saying there was no way Boston was giving up picks, especially 1 or 2 first rounders, to get rid of Jrue. On the trade itself, I am surprised however of what they were able to get in return. Simons is someone I valued much higher than Jrue. The second-round picks aren't nothing, but meh, whatever. I have no clue what Portland is doing.... We'd riot again if Nico made a similar move for Jrue. Glad it's over. RE: TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR, Simons + two 2nds to BOS - HoosierDaddyKid - 06-24-2025 We've already had three trades prior to the draft tomorrow. There is speculation this could be a highly, active trade and FA signing season more than the norm. RE: TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR, Simons + two 2nds to BOS - FireNicoHarrison - 06-24-2025 Great for the Mavs, another old injuried ass off the table. Our 2 years window can't be fixed, sell street clothes high please RE: TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR, Simons + two 2nds to BOS - omahen - 06-24-2025 Interesting comparison of Bane and Simons trade. Looking at counting stats, they are actually very similar players. Both were actually negative in the on/off category for their teams. Similar age. Trade partners sent what is considered bad salary in both cases (KCP to Orlando and JRue to Portland). Bane already got his big contract, Simons will get one next season (but not sure it will be as high as the salary Bane has). Despite all this, Orlando paid 4 FRP and a recent lottery pick while Portland attached 2 SRP to Simons. Why did Orlando not target Simons instead? Why did Portland not try to move Simons for KCP (similarly overpaid def first vet as JRue, of course not as good but also not as expensive) and at least a couple of picks instead? RE: TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR, Simons + two 2nds to BOS - SleepingHero - 06-24-2025 I also wouldn’t be so quick to think Jrue stays in Portland. Does Jrue want to waste his last contract wasting away on a horrible Portland team? What if he forces his way out? Portland fans were set for a while with Simons to Orlando. They seemed happy with pick #16 and filler to make the salaries work. Some wanted Anthony Black as well, but most thought it was too much for them to include Black. I like Bane substantially more but you are right you have to figure on asking price. Simons needs to prove he can fit in a smaller role than he is familar with. I don't have those concerns with Bane. Although, I think Boston did good in their trade. RE: TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR, Simons + two 2nds to BOS - Mavs2021 - 06-24-2025 Sacrificed Simons, so Nico could not do something stupid. Sexton just makes too much sense. It´s borderline Lakers/Gafford territory. RE: TRADE: Jrue Holiday to POR, Simons + two 2nds to BOS - Nowitzki Way - 06-24-2025 Go after Scoot Henderson at this point. He's only 21. He just got his spot taken by Holiday. |
