Pretty underwhelming in my view. I do believe in Bey long term. But I'm not sold yet on THT...seems like he would become the next JRich/Delon to disappear in the lineup next to Luka.

Not to mention that the only remaining interesting options in free agency are RFA. In my opinion not having capspace in the summer is a good thing.
Love is obviously not a player that any team should take back without asking for some kind of compensation but if the Cavs are willing to attach a younger prospect, pick or useful rotation piece like Nance that´s not a bad idea.
I wouldn't want to keep both for what it's going to cost. However they can keep one of Richardson/THJ pretty easily. For example: Pick up WCS team option, waive Powell, re-sign THJ at $15m/yr. At that point they have between $22-30m in room available depending on where the salary cap falls. Small moves like WCS/Burke and cash + 2nd round pick could free up more as needed.

You could get two quality rotation players with that money. Right now I'm interested in Holmes and DJJ, but there are other options as well. For instance, if Dallas wants another playmaker next to Luka and isn't ready to commit to Brunson, sign one of Lowry/Conley/Schroder/Dragic.

You can still develop the younger players in that scenario without the Love contract anchored around your neck.

The thing with THT is he has a motor and gives maximum effort.  He's definitely a Rick Carlisle type of guy.  I don't share that fear at all.  If Bey/THT develop over the next two years and gives you more flexibility in regards to the future of DFS.  Small moves are important and with our lack of assets, small moves are our what we should expect in the short term and what we need to hit on.

While I have no reason to believe his original calf injury wasn't legit, Cleveland has clearly shifted to playing the young players the season and has zero motivation to get him back in the lineup. Love seems like a prime candidate to miraculously heal the moment he's traded.

Look on the bright side. Trading for Love only makes sense if they also trade KP. They add a guy that has proven his value as a stretch 4/5 next to LeBron. Obviously not a good defender but on offense he should be a great fit (way better than KP).

Plus he's got fresh legs.  Kevin "fresh legs" Love.  :p

Speaking of Bagley and if you want to feel better, read this comments section and enjoy a good laugh:

Now on to luka. He’s great, no doubt, but does he make other players and the team better? Let’s look at this more. Porzingis was a bordline all-star with the knicks. He comes over to the mavs and is all but forgotten. He is even trade bait material. Why? Because doncic is extremely ball-dominant and doesn’t make others better. Here is the most telling stat… Porzingis "averaged 27.2 points and 11.8 rebounds in 10 games without Doncic in their first season together in 2019-20". I always compare luka to westbrook b/c they are selfish stat machines.

That thread was SOOO funny

The fact that Fish is using Kevin Love and "3rd star" in the same article in 2021....

Literally have had the same thought. The only way it makes sense for the Mavs to be seriously pursuing Kevin Love is if KP is on the way out somewhere.

Pretty confusing to get a "3rd Star" prior to a 2nd Star.

Well, I for 1 think Luka is a star, sorry you don't think so. If only we could pair KP with at least 1 other star then.

First round picks have become the most overrated asset in the world. Really reminds me of this clip from Family Guy of all places:

Sure FRP are good to have. How often do those picks become a player like KP? Further, if we're just getting assets to trade for a 2nd star, why not just keep the one we already have. We need to UPGRADE KP if we can. Not take 5 steps back and in the process take on another oft injured 30 year old PG that is by all measurables is having a worse season than KP.

Dude can't defend a stationary traffic cone apparently. Plus his shot is a bit inconsistent. As a big man in the NBA if you can't shoot or defend, it's hard for you to have a place anywhere on a roster.

But I agree with you. Bagley has all the talent and I think he could be a great Powell replacement type dude. Just hard to believe the Kings cut their losses so early on their 2nd pick. Especially because doing so is all but confirming their gigantic mistake that draft. Which makes me think the Kings would rather let Bagley rot on their roster than give him to Dallas for anything.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - omahen - 03-07-2021

I am all in to bring a very experienced vet, but I have one demand. He must be a good defensive player, as defensive general is a role we miss the most imho. Love is not. Sure he might be cheap but Powell is a 10 mil per season anchor and Love would be a 30 mil per season anchor. Media is still running the story about Mavs being the bad 3 point shooting team (actually 11th since February 1st), but Love would be replacing our by far best 3pt shooter who is also a good defender. So sorry, I have a really hard time seeing how this would be an improvement.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - MAVS-SLO - 03-07-2021

Sometimes it's better to do nothing, than do the stupidity. And most of these trade ideas are stupidity. From trading KP for a bunch of role players, to a trading for a old injury prone player on a max contract.

We need to build, not to break our team for 3-4 year onwards with similar trade ideas and ideas where we just trade a player for another just to trade him.

So let first see our roster before talking about trade ideas.

PG: Luka - Brunson - Burke.

Do we need anything more?
Luka is franchise player, Brunson si having great year, so we need to have his contract extension in head too before ''making'' longterm trade ideas which can destroy our cap space for few years later. Burke as a 3 option is also great option. On a good contract, fantastic as a 3 option.

SG: Hardaway - Green.

It could better? It could be. Do we have assest to improve that? No.
Hardaway is improving from day 1, have a desire for play for Mavs and it's great fit for this team. His resigning must be one of the priorities this summer. With Brunson and Burke also playing on his position there is no need for trading or. signing in free agency players like Hield or Furnier. As a 4 or 5 option there is also Green for which i hope he will get some minutes to show what he can do. Better to play him than a Iwundu or similar signings in free agency.

SF: Richardson - Finney - Smith.

That's a little bit difficult. For now Richardson it's the biggest disappointing of this season. But, beacuse of Covid & bad beginning of the season for the whole team i would give him more games to show what he can do. For DFS there is nothing to add. His contract extension we need to have in head like Brunson's.

PF: Porzingis - Kleber - Bey

For most of them i talked in a preview posts. Still think that Porzingis is 2 or a 3 star, but this season everything goes slowly, but i think his performances will only improve. Kleber look at the DFS & Brunson. Rest of minutes i hope goes to Bey.

C: Powell - WCS - Boban.

This position it's the biggest weakness of this team. It was last season and it's this season. Every game against physical team we are killed. From Utah, Philadelphia, Denver, Indiana, Lakers...
The problem is beacuse all of 3 players are bench players. Boban is good for atmposphere, WCS is solid looking through the contract and Powell is disaster looking through the contract. Buyout player.

This must be priorite in a trade or free agency. Turner would be perfect here alongside KP.

I didn't write about Johnson & Iwundu beacuse i don't see them in this team, but alongside Powell should be our trade assets.

So what we should do?

- Give a rookies a chance instead of bench players like Iwundu.

- Better to search for a undrafted players like DFS or Kleber instead of trading for old injury prone players.

- Avoid max players & players who will be here just beacuse of money (Collins, Oladipo).

- Look at 10 - 20 (cca) mil. range of players instead of max.

- Resign players which want to be in Dallas (THJ) and build team around them (with Brunson, DFS & others).

- Add pieces which are missing (Turner) instead of trading just to trade (Hield, Furnier).
