I wonder if OKC would be willing to trade Oubre to us. Plenty of options for a three team trade here. Rubio will likely be needed to match salaries, but I don´t think OKC really wants him. Maybe he´ll be re-directed to a 3rd team or even get a 4th team involved. Rubio/Huerter to Indiana Oladipo to Atlanta CP3 to Phoenix Oubre/Bitadze/Suns 2021 1st round pick and #10 for #25 pick swap to OKC. Something like that. Why would they dump TJ Warren for cash and do this CP3 trade. Not that it is bad, just fickle. I stand corrected. Although who knows how legit those rumors were. I tend to think alot of these rumors that kind of make you scratch your head are just ways to initiate conversations with teams and get talking about what it would take to get the player you really want instead. At least from the Mavs standpoint. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - StepBackJay - 11-10-2020 Man who'd a thunk 1 year later CP3 is the hottest name in town. We literally thought this was the worst contract in the NBA last summer and untradable. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - cjeter24 - 11-10-2020 The Paul to PHX story makes a ton of sense on multiple fronts. 1. They can afford him. With 15 mill of cap space that's less big money contracts that you have to send back to OKC. An expiring Oubre and Rubio get it done with combined with cap space. The hardest part of moving Paul for OKC will be to not take back garbage and still get an asset for Paul. 2. Bridges would be a natural replacement for Oubre for PHX. I already had suspected that with further improvement this year, Oubre may be odd man out by next summer anyways. 3. Oubre is still a quality asset. Surely you aren't getting a lottery pick for Paul included in that deal. What about picks for Oubre from a 3rd team? 18 and 31 for Oubre is a solid get IMO. You could easily trade up for a lottery pick if you throw in one of your additional hoard of 1st rounders with 18 and 31. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - DanSchwartzgan - 11-10-2020 (11-10-2020, 10:07 PM)cjeter24 Wrote: The Paul to PHX story makes a ton of sense on multiple fronts. If I’m Phoenix and I’m really going to step out of character and do this, I’d use my cap room for Gallinari (or some upgrade at PF over Saric and Frank the Tank) and then do the deal for Paul. Rubio and Oubre combined make almost enough to trade match. It wouldn’t take much more. The trick is this would need to be done in the new season if draft compensation is included. You could agree to the deal and swap picks and then consummate the deal after Phoenix uses its cap room. Phoenix would be pretty competitive for the next couple of years. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - cjeter24 - 11-10-2020 (11-10-2020, 10:26 PM)DanSchwartzman Wrote:(11-10-2020, 10:07 PM)cjeter24 Wrote: The Paul to PHX story makes a ton of sense on multiple fronts. Yeah that wouldn't be a bad move. The issue with that is they pretty much have to get the Paul trade done outside of any deal unless he is still not traded at the start of free agency. If a deal is done tho... It really doesn't matter if the deal is done in free agency for the the Mavs. It's going to be a post draft trade regardless so Mavs can include their draft picks. So all PHX has to do is say hey wait lets wait a second to finalize this deal. Use the cap space and then finish cap matching the last few mill for Paul's deal. I think Frank's expiring deal makes the money work. OKC could probably squeeze a 2nd or something out of them for their troubles. Really for OKC, Oubre doesn't make a lot of sense to just keep at least thru all the season. You risk losing him in FA and he may cost alot anyways. But I think Oubre has pretty solid tradable value and to be able to flip Paul for any other asset and not take bloated deals back will be a win. Of course OKC could just balk and say we got an all pro here. But I seriously doubt anyone is paying up that price at his age and price tag. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - KillerLeft - 11-10-2020 Hopefully, this PHX rumor is just to motivate a contender to make a better offer for Paul. I am extremely confident that the Mavs will be at least a playoff team next year, but a new player on the board makes it that much more difficult. Too rich for my blood and I really liked the idea of Oubre when he was with Washington. He's still young I guess but I'd rather just see if he makes it too free agency. The Mavs are going to have to improve tremendously not to have Phoenix not end up with a better record if both teams were to enter next season with the same rosters with which they finished the last one, and I think Phoenix is going to improve plenty roster-wise as well. CP3 would be a whole 'nother level. I think it's a pretty safe literal bet that Phoenix finishes 2020-21 with more wins than the Mavs if they were to acquire CP3 - unless the Mavs acquired a third star this offseason, which I would regard as extremely difficult given their roster situation. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - KillerLeft - 11-10-2020 (11-10-2020, 11:29 PM)Scott41theMavs Wrote: The Mavs are going to have to improve tremendously not to have Phoenix not end up with a better record if both teams were to enter next season with the same rosters with which they finished the last one, and I think Phoenix is going to improve plenty roster-wise as well. I agree they’re on the come up, and I’d feel the same as you if they had made the playoffs. But, the Mavs did and they didn’t. You know how much I value that experience. I’d say that (plus coaching and other organizational positives) put the Mavs almost a full year ahead of the Suns, as things stand today. CP3 would change that equation SIGNIFICANTLY, however. It's still a long ways up tho. And that's assuming Paul stays healthy a full season. They wouldn't be the deepest team either. I think they would make the playoffs, but lots of ways it goes wrong. West would suddenly become murders row again. They really need to go top 16 teams. Undoubtedly at some point in the next few years you are going to be back to 10 teams around 50 wins in the west while the the east has teams with losing records in the playoffs. Nothing ever changes because the franchises in the East are either poor or poorly ran. Both true, but the biggest factor, imo, is that basketball is a winter sport and the East teams are almost all in cold cities. Warm places are better than cold places. |
