This got my thinking. Certainly it´s real, but if you are the Pacers why not fake it and be like sorry Nets, we can´t do the trade, maybe add another pick for our risk.

Apparently, the trade was held up ever so briefly because of LaVert's physical, but has since been finalized.

Yeah, makes the Oladipo/LaVert swap even more clear, imo.

Both potentially good players, both significantly damaged, both fairly well compensated. 

Indiana is trying to be good, and it's no secret that Oladipo has been wanting to land in Miami for awhile. Whether Miami wants him or not is a different story, but it's clear he wasn't going to be in Indiana next season. THEY preferred the player with the longer term contract. 

Houston has no idea whether they can be good or not, and frankly, nobody running that organization right now has much experience doing their job, so their heads are all spinning, probably. All they DO know is that the owner wants/needs to pay much less for his roster in the near future. Seems like THEY preferred the player who is expiring at the end of this year.

Wow hope he is okay. I am surprised the trade would go through but maybe they are still good with it since he is under contract for a couple of years.
