Man, you'd think so. I have a tough time envisioning a way in which all three of those guys can coexist offensively. This trade (and the timing of it) makes the most sense when you think of Harden as Irving's replacement, imo. Who knows, though? 

Question for the board: let's say this is true, and Irving is A) being shopped but B) his value is way down because of his recent latent insanity. Are we, as Mavs fans, interested? Setting aside the question of whether he could be acquired with the assets on hand, do we think he's a fit here? I can see arguments for and against, and I'm curious what others think.

I just can't see him as a fit next to Luka.  He was forced to play off the ball more next to Lebron and he hated it.  I don't think he could swallow his pride enough to become #2 next to a 21 year old Euro.

As a player he would be great for Mavs, great fit. As a person, I don' want him anywhere near. I doubt anyone can control him

Not at all. While plenty of players don’t fit in one team environment and thrive in another, nothing about the last few years of Kyrie has made it seem like he’s just waiting for the right environment for issues to disappear.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I think Kyrie has serious mental health issues that affect not only him but also everyone around him. As talented as he clearly is, Irving is on my short list of players that I wouldn't want anywhere near the team even on a minimum non-guaranteed contract. It's a team game, and a lesser player who is a better teammate is still a recipe for more long-term success.

If anyone ever needed to be coached by Phil Jackson, it's probably Kyrie. I don't think it's fair to say he has mental health issues. It feels like he has some growing up to do and by the time he does, it will be too late. Basketball just isn't the most important thing in his life and that's fine. As supremely talented as he is, there are just too many red flags (health and fit with our coach) to even consider it unless he was absolutely gifted to us and there is just no way his trade value is that low.

Never ever ever ever ever. 

Kyrie is one of few players I would NEVER want on my team. Toxic goods. Destroys every team he touches. He's a fantastic player, but that's when he actually wants to play. And even then is his play even worth the drama he brings? 

If I was the Nets I'd tell Kyrie to stay home and don't come back and try to give him to ANY team for some bench players to get any sort of depth. He's the first player in my life that I felt it'd be good for the league if he'd retire early and fade away into obscurity.

Kyrie will be the perfect running mate for Luka basketball wise IMHO

The talent is just worththe risk at least for me.

That said, it is all up to the coach, RC managed some of the toughest characters during his time in Indiana and Detroit, but I suspect he is at "I am too old for this bs" point in his coaching career.

Um no? Kyrie is a ball-hog. Very talented but insane. Nets have Harden now which insures them from Kyrie going completely off the reservation. I think they could afford to sell off Kyrie for 50 cents on the dollar if they need to. I am sure they want it to all work out with their 3 stars altho Kyrie is such a nut I could picture him just retiring at any given moment.

I don't understand why the Rox chose Dipo over LaVert but I still think they will be a good team. Dipo is a good fit, Wood has played well and they have picks to make additional moves if that's what they want to do.

Eric Gordon is a guy they might want to upgrade. 32 with diminishing skills. Tucker is good but old and on the last year of his deal. They have plenty of ammunition to upgrade those spots.

Who is the pick and roll ball handler now with the ability to unlock Wood? Wall? Oladipo? Who's the veteran head coach with enough experience to quickly turn all of these kitchen scraps (tasty ingredients they may be) into a flavorful impromptu omelette? 

I'm not sure they'll even come close to making the playoffs now. I suspect their season is effectively over, competitively.

I want to see it on the court. Wall and Dipo are pretty good right? I don't know ab their PnR skills but I think that is a good backcourt. They still have lots of spacing. This team should be able to run Silas's offense. I want to see them play before I decide whether or not they will suck. Wood is like 22/10 on the season right now so you have 3 guys that can score in the starting lineup. 

And like I said they could make more moves.

He isn't a ball hog. Just a scoring guard, which is perfect for us.

The good news for me is I can now openly be a fan of Houston again. Born in the city, and LOVING the Hakeem teams, it's been hard to turn away from them for so long.

I'm in a similar place. Not that I'm a Houston fan, but now I don't have to root against them when they're playing someone else. I can be neutral.
