If you can get over the fact that this dude sounds like a 12 year old (that will take a minute), he has a pretty good grasp over the NBA game, Richardson, and how he might fit in Dallas. Worth a listen, imo.

that take on hyping up the Lakers role players was pretty meh. Saying DFS would be the 15th man on the Lakers or Clippers is a bit ... well ... Rolleyes

Johnson starting over DFS interesting as well Big Grin
@"sefant" I only listened to the interview with the Philly guy about Richardson, so that's all I was talking about. If what you're listing above was alluded to in the rest of the podcast, then I'm glad I skipped it.

P.S. I am going to change my "title" on this website to "Tyler Bey FanBoy"....I think we need a resident one.

Man I would love me a RoCo starter kit.

Including Bey with the game winning pass at the post (TOUGH DELIVERY).
Great video, thanks for that.

REALLY love Bey....one might say I am his Fan Boy. Wink

Great post. That one video really highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of Bey. Had some great examples of him on defense, good and bad.

Excited to see what he can do when he's asked to just focus on 1 thing surrounded by a bunch of good players.
I hope we'll sign T. Bey next year to a team contract instead of stashing him in the G-League. Pending whatever happens 2021 offseason, we got someone to replace; DFS, Kleber, James Johnson.

Rather it be DFS, but his tied up till 2022. Kleber if his stats are better is definitely kept (yes his contract is till 2023) and James Johnson is the expiring contract that's more probable that he goes somewhere midseason or next season. Either way, its going to free up a roster spot for him.

His got a year in G-League to gather up his offensive arsenal (slashing, corner 3's, positionally better as a wing). I know he play in Colorado mostly as a 4 and sometimes a stretch 5 but if Mavs can make him a true small forward, he'll be one of the best role players in the league.
The two way guys this year are treated just like a normal roster spot, no limits.  I don't think they are even sure if there is going to be a G-League right now.

Oh man. Im getting real excited.
J Rich is going to BALL OUT
This trade is great bc the Mavs are going to get the exact player they tried to get the bargain version of last year in Delon Wright. J Rich can do some playmaking, can shoot and most importantly can defend the best perimeter player. It cost Curry but the fact is Curry was not a starter and a liability in the playoffs because of his defensive limitations. I love Curry but you need to prioritize starters over 6th men. Hopefully Mavs can replace the shooting he provided off the bench. Curry is one of the best 3 point shooters in the league (maybe history on a smallish sample size?) so that will be a challenge but you have to shore up starters first.

I expect J Rich to have a great year and likely be resigned in 2021.
Most likely to be the Draymond Green of this draft — Tre Jones, San Antonio Spurs

A small point guard is the most likely to be the next Draymond Green?  I don't think so.

I'd say their passing is similar, but Richardson's handles are so vastly superior to THJ's that people will assume he's a better passer because he's able to create advantageous passing angles.

And, my god, if he's "comparable" to the shooting that THJ gave them last year, that's damn near an all-star, imo. I have a hard time seeing that, but I'd welcome it with open arms. I think Richardson is a guy you like to have as the dude other teams leave open. He'll make those at a high clip, and his percentage will increase, as you say. If that guy on your team makes more of them then that guy on the other team does, huge advantage. Kind of like DFS did last year. The "Luka effect" on guys like that is that the catch happens with great ball positioning and rhythm, and from a less predictable passing angle. The attempt is more wide open as a result. But, I don't anticipate that the Mavs will build their offense around getting him catch and shoot 3's as a first or second option like they did with THJ (or like they WOULD do with Hield).

Again, THJ did not stand around waiting for his man to help someone else like DFS did. He played a much more primary role on the offensive side of the ball.

(11-23-2020, 01:41 PM)Kammrath Wrote: [ -> ]I do think with the right development of technique he absolutely can. His build is almost EXACTLY the same as RoCo (their body measurements are basically the exact same, but TBey is a better athlete). TBey has all the tools, the question will be whether he develops the toughness and technique to capitalize on that.

Yes, he is the definition of a switchable defender. There'll be some growing pains, but I don't doubt he can get there on the NBA level at all.

The question about Bey is offense. But, I fully believe they'll play him at the 4, where one can envision him as the roll man pretty easily. Still, it's going to take him a while to master all the permutations of when to roll, when to short roll, when to slip, when to pop, what to do with the ball on a short roll, when to make the extra pass vs. forcing a shot up, etc. I think he can do it, but it's going to take a while.
Richardson has a better career FG%, 3pt% and FT% compared to THJ, on only slightly lower volume. THJ put up an absolute career year from 3 last season, but Richardson has hit 37% from 3 for Miami. Everyone is all over THJ as a shooter right now, but he's had an outlier season after being bad the entirety of his career. I think the improvement had more to do with the system he played in Dallas than some huge natural improvement in his shooting ability (as evidenced by a few other Mavs putting up career shooting seasons from 3), which actually bodes pretty well for Josh potentially having a shooting season as good or close to what THJ just did.
