On the very small chance that Kawhi leaves the Clippers, would Dallas be the #1 option?  If J-Rich opts out, we would have $34.4 million in cap space.  I believe we're a Trey Burke for air trade away from getting to the max which shouldn't be hard.  Would we still have the full MLE or just rMLE if we sign Kawhi outright into our cap space?

But, I can't even wrap my head around this. It's tempting to hope for this outcome, because I believe Kawhi Leonard would make this team a contender overnight. He's not quite the defender he used to be, but then again, he's the main ball-handler these days. Maybe playing with Luka would allow him to put more energy in on defense again. 

To answer your question, I suppose we'd have to know whether or not Kawhi WANTS the ball in his hands as much as it has been since he got to LAC. If yes, then he won't want to come here, no. But, maybe he WANTS to play with a PG. Who knows...

Everything I've learned about him, though, has led me to believe getting to Los Angeles (regardless of which team) has always been his goal. It's home for him. It's just so hard for me to disregard that because of a few rumors. This isn't a lecture to you Mavs03, I realize you said "very small chance." It's more to remind myself not to get my hopes up.

That or Mitchell Robinson....if he is healthy, he is a great big to team with Luka.

I think Robinson is a couple years away from being able to do what the Mavs need, but I have little doubt that he'll get there. I would be in support of that, for sure.
