New piece from the Toronto writer for The Athletic on potential landing spots for Kyle Lowry. He delves into NY, Miami, Philly and Dallas. The Philly package mentioned in the last sentence revolves around G. Hill, Curry and Maxey:
Dallas Mavericks
This is one of my favourite potential Lowry destinations, although it would be far more interesting if the rightfully maligned Kristaps Porzingis were not on the books for more than $101 million over the next three years. Not great.
Still, watching Luka Doncic wear down late in virtually every game against the Clippers, it is tempting to imagine Lowry absorbing some of the playmaking duties that were on Docic’s shoulders. We’ve already seen what Lowry can do as a secondary playmaker next to a true superstar.
Alas, this will functionally come down to the Mavericks choosing between retaining free agent Tim Hardaway Jr., who acquitted himself nicely against the Clippers, or trying to use the space created by his departure to build out the roster. The Mavericks have to consider the long-term with Doncic as the focal point, and the picture is quite cloudy right now. Of course, Lowry has the ability to refocus an organization with his competitiveness alone. A sign-and-trade deal is also possible, especially if Josh Richardson opts into his $11.6-million salary next year, but the Mavericks cannot put together an offer as appealing as Philadelphia can.
