I'm to the point where I think the Mavs hold on to KP for one more year. He looked bad but he's only 25 and was coming off an injury. Whose to say he couldn't benefit from a healthy offseason and come back better next year? I think trading him when his value is at it's lowest might not be the best move.
I'd love to see if we could trade for Myles Turner without giving up KP. Let's say Richardson opts in and we trade him, Brunson, and salary filler like Burke or WCS for Turner? I love Brunson but you have to give something to get something. Then re-sign THJ and see if you can pick up Dragic and a decent wing with your exceptions? The cap experts in here don't seem to think we'll have much if any cap space left if we re-sign THJ so I'm trying to think of realistic scenarios.
Those moves could give you a main rotation of :
Turner/Powell
Porzingis/Kleber
Finney-Smith/Green
Hardaway Jr/FA Wing
Doncic/Dragic
Turner would give us some rim protection and a pick and roll/rim running partner for Luka who can also shoot the 3 a bit. Dragic is your secondary playmaker. FA wing of choice brings defense and shooting. Maybe a vet like Bazemore or Danny Green could fill that role?
That would be a good offseason for me and seems realistic. That said, if we somehow were able to get some cap space I'd love to go after Richaun Holmes, Norm Powell, or Talen Horton-Tucker. Whatever we do we need rim protection, defense and shooting from the wings, and a secondary playmaker.
