So I finally got home and at my computer. Much easier typing on a keyboard and researching than a phone. Again, sorry for the attack, I just saw the premise of the proposal as typed and then saw the names on the starting 5 and with there being no mention of blueprint (which would make sense if you named skillsets as opposed to players) and thought I've seen more thought out posts from you (mostly opposite my opinion lately).
So let's start again.
I think the inclusion of THJ, Simmons and Theis are all pretty far off (some much more than others) and seems very disjointed to me. I don't have much of an opinion on Duncan Robinson since I haven't seen him play enough, so I leave him out of this. However, it almost seems like you're using a shopping list of skillsets and trying to figure out guys who fit those traits, in sizes that make court sense. I get that as a basis if that is your basis.
Luka
Two way guard (PG or SG or tweener type doesn't matter, preferrably 6'2"-6'5") - mostly defensive who can guard the most likely point of attack but can also dribble in extreme traffic and distribute a little, or catches the distribution bug from Luka when he gets here. This is the most realistic spot to get these traits from cause there are more of these types to choose from, however, if we can realistically get some of these traits somewhere else, this player can be more of an outside shooter type that guards the waterbugs.
Prototype: Malcolm Brogdon
Other examples: Marcus Smart, Bogdan Bogdanovich, Terry Rozier, Devonte Graham, Terance Mann, Derrick White to name a few.
Older perfect examples: Jimmy Butler, *Jrue Holiday
Two way medium sized wing (6'5"-6'9" guy) - Swiss army knife on defense and offense. Should be able to drive a bit in light traffic and shoot from the outside.
Prototype: *Kawhi Leonard, but more realistic Robert Covington
Other examples: *Jaylen Brown, OG Anunoby, *Jerami Grant to name a few
This one's hard cause the ones that are best fits would be extremely hard to get. Only realistic way is if Tor or Por blows it up.
Two way big wing (6'7"-6'10) - Help defender, can be the vocal defensive leader if the C isn't that. Has at least a catch and shoot 3 shot, if not other skills. Should be a big body if that isn't what you have at C.
Prototype: Pascal Siakam
Other examples: *Julius Randle, Christian Wood, Tobias Harris, *Patrick Williams, John Collins (if there is enough defense around him and Luka) to name a few.
Center (6'10"-7'0") - Shot blocker, pick and roller, has some post up skill, should be the eyes and ears of the defense, having a passable 3 shot would be great, also would be great to be able to guard the perimeter.
Prototype: *Bam Adebayo, but more realistic Myles Turner
Other examples: *Wendell Carter Jr, *Clint Capela to name a couple more.
* - not really realistic targets to date, but that's the type of player you want.
I get that you also have to be wary of salary too. I would contend that spending a vast majority on the full 5 starting group would do wonders for our team, as long as the contracts match the on court value or is better. I would take 5 guys at $100M as long as they're worth the money, then fill in the other spots with ring chasers at vet min and MLE type contracts.
The best way to get a top starting 5 is to identify rookie scale contract guys that should have the skillsets mentioned above but need a change of scenery to get going. WCJ would have been great to get at the TDL. Turner has been rumored to be gettable for the last 2-3 years. That way you can spend more in the other positions, like the medium sized wing spot that has a good amount of options, but when they're good at that spot, they're expensive.
