"Comparable" talent is subjective. KP still has a reputation as a star but if you trade him you aren't going to get a star back. If Mavs believe KP is a star then they won't trade him bc they won't get equal value. If however, Mavs do think KP is not a fit and want to get value back for him I believe they can.
I am confident for example the Warriors would gladly give up Minney pick + Wiggins for KP in some kind of trade. That sets the market for KP. The problem is I am not sure the Mavs want any of that so you need more teams involved.
