Hey, I was excited about Johnson when he got here! @"dirkfansince1998" makes fun of me about it all the time, lol. Really, I was just excited about Wright's money disappearing after this season, but I was a little optimistic that Johnson could give them something.
On a team that's trying to be good, it just makes sense to me that the guys who've done it before will get ample chances to earn minutes. At this point, I think it's safe to say Johnson was NOT helpful on the court. They moved him. I have no problem with that, either.
In THIS game, Green was a low-mistake guy (he has been high-energy in every game, so far, imo). In earlier games, not so much. I interpret that as evidence of growth. Some combination of Carlisle, the staff and Green, himself, are doing things. Things that aren't televised. It couldn't be more clear, imo. When they think the kid is ready to further his development without hurting the team, and more to the point, when they think the kid is ready to contribute more on the court than some of the guys playing ahead of him (I'd say DFS and Richardson have been the players in his way, not Johnson) then he'll get more chances.
Now, none of the paragraph above is meant to communicate that Carlisle could never be wrong with these judgements. He could, and probably has been from time to time. What I find ludicrous is this notion that if we aren't allowed to watch "development" on television then it must not be happening. This is literally these people's professions. There are multiple people whose days begin and end thinking about Green and how he can get better. There is so much information about Green's progress that we simply don't have, but they do have it. If the simplistic view of "developing rookies" thrown out on this board (even moreso on Twitter) daily were correct, that would mean the coaching staff is actively working against the best interests of the team. Obviously, that's nut-bar factor 9.
